PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carver McNulty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Choke Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McNulty comes into the arena with Still I Rise - Shadows Fall blaring out of the sound system. Liddell has chosen Intro - DMX as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. On his way into the cage it seems that Carver McNulty has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Carver McNulty seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Carver McNulty!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Choke Liddell!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, William Peck and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McNulty connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
McNulty shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Liddell makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
McNulty throws a left and a right that both miss

so Liddell counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Liddell pushes down on McNulty's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Liddell is taking a breather. McNulty says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Liddell trying to mount his opponent but McNulty defends it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Liddell sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. McNulty defending well though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Liddell moves nicely into side control.

McNulty explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
McNulty is breathing heavily.

Liddell dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Liddell catches McNulty with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
McNulty shoots and misses
and Liddell counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

McNulty feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Liddell utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Liddell is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Liddell manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. McNulty manages to get himself to full guard.

Liddell is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Liddell is pushing down on McNulty's leg trying to pass to half guard. McNulty is fighting to maintain full guard but Liddell has managed to sneak the leg through.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Liddell wants to lay and pray for a moment but McNulty keeps working.

Liddell seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but McNulty does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Choke Liddell.

McNulty fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Liddell to the ground. McNulty is now in Liddell's guard.

Liddell manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
McNulty has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Liddell's lack of action.
McNulty looks like he's trying to stand up.
Nice strikes from Liddell there.
Liddell is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for McNulty!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

McNulty is rocked!
McNulty takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Liddell's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Choke Liddell!
Choke Liddell is the new light heavyweight champion!
A very excited looking Choke Liddell made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
