Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Andy Drapes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Spott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike Spott will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Andy Drapes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike Spott!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Saam Ante and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spott fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Drapes shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Spott counters with a shoot takedown. Drapes fights it but they end up in guard.
Spott trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Spott has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Drapes is proving hard to escape from.
Spott controls from within his opponent's guard.
Spott would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Spott tries to free his leg and advance position but Drapes is retaining full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mike Spott was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Spott clinches.

Spott manages to break the clinch.
Drapes stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Drapes wants it to stay on the feet.
Drapes shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Spott defends it nicely.

and Spott connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Spott tries a head kick but it misses.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Spott is defended easily by Drapes.
Drapes closes the distance and clinches up with Spott, looking for a takedown. Drapes pushes Spott against the cage but Spott circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Drapes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Spott as he jumps to the side.
Drapes slaps away a takedown attempt from Spott, before circling back to the center of the mat.

The fight stays on the outside here - Spott looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Spott throws a nice looking combination but Drapes bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Spott keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

and Spott counters with a nice double leg into side control. Drapes won't be happy with that.
Drapes seems a little lost for a moment, as Spott dominates the positioning.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Drapes is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Spott has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Drapes shoots in but Spott avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Spott throws a head kick but Drapes moves out of range.
Drapes has his takedown stuffed
and Spott counters with a head kick. That will keep Drapes thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Mike Spott seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Spott tries to close the distance and clinch but Drapes swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Drapes feints and as Spott raises his hands in defense, Drapes changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Drapes trying to control the position from guard on top but Spott is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Drapes postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Spott is trying to keep Drapes in close.
Spott wants to stand and escape but Drapes is having none of it.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mike Spott hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Drapes walks forward, straight into a front kick from Spott.
Drapes fails to land the takedown.
Spott throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Drapes.
Drapes shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Spott counters with a single leg into guard. Drapes didn't expect that.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Drapes keeping moving, preventing Spott from controlling successfully.

Spott got a little sloppy there for a moment and Drapes has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Spott has managed to get both his arms back between Drapes's legs - danger averted.

Spott stands up from Drapes's guard - Spott perhaps looking for a knockout.
Spott shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Drapes as he avoids it easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Drapes changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Spott looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Drapes wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Spott, who protects the arm well.
Spott tries to improve position but can't.
This has been an exciting period of action!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Drapes thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Andy Drapes will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!



Spott fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Drapes to the ground. Spott is now in Drapes's guard.
Drapes is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Andy Drapes.
Spott shoots for a double leg takedown but Drapes sprawls well. He's pushed Spott's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Drapes looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Spott slaps away a takedown attempt from Drapes, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Spott is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Spott swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Spott tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Drapes manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Andy Drapes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Spott fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Drapes to the ground. Spott is now in Drapes's guard.
Spott takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Drapes pulls Spott in close to prevent any damage.
Spott must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Spott wants to pass the guard but Drapes is keeping the position.

We're going to have a standup here because Andy Drapes wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Mike Spott comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Spott has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
