Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shirou Masuda and Yukihiro Shimada.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitehead shoots in for a takedown but Barnett shows good takedown defense.
Barnett instigates a clinch.
Barnett has Whitehead pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Barnett pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Whitehead tumbling to the mat - Barnett dives into Whitehead's guard.

Whitehead has his foot on Barnett's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Barnett works his way back into a safe position though.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Barnett accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Barnett is in close to Whitehead's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Barnett looks up at the clock and then as Whitehead takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Barnett smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Barnett gets control of Whitehead's arms and successfully pulls guard. Barnett will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Barnett fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Whitehead, pushing him back against the cage.

Barnett jumps guard and drags Whitehead to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Barnett is looking for a triangle but Whitehead pushes his legs off easily.
Barnett wants to stand but Whitehead is controlling the position.

Whitehead drops back, looking for a kneebar! Barnett looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Barnett looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Barnett!

Whitehead is refusing to be controlled, as Barnett sits in half guard.

Barnett lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Barnett drops an elbow to the side of Whitehead's head.
Barnett passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Whitehead!
Whitehead takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Barnett has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Whitehead uses from the top position.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Whitehead working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Barnett doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Barnett manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
