Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nikolai Kovalenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Tripper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tripper is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Disturbed - Land Of Confusion. Nikolai Kovalenko could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Jack Tripper's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 10 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nikolai Kovalenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jack Tripper!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kovalenko avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Kovalenko throws a lazy uppercut
and Tripper counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Kovalenko throws a leg kick but Tripper moved away.
Tripper is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kovalenko lands a lovely overhand right.
Tripper throws a low kick but it's checked well by Kovalenko.
Kovalenko takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Kovalenko slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Tripper punishes Kovalenko's body with a nice straight punch.
Tripper shoots for a takedown but Kovalenko saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Kovalenko throws a series of strikes that have Tripper backpedaling.
Tripper does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Kovalenko throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

and Tripper counters with an outside leg kick.
Tripper lands a nice shot to the body.
Kovalenko is breathing heavily.

Tripper wants to slow Kovalenko down by chopping away at his legs.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Tripper.

Kovalenko gets caught napping as Tripper dives in and scores a takedown. Kovalenko manages to retain guard.

Tripper wants to control from the top but Kovalenko keeps moving.
Tripper throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kovalenko works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Tripper accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Tripper trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Tripper changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kovalenko tries to avoid it but Tripper manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kovalenko to the ground. Kovalenko escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

A looping hook to the body misses from Tripper. Kovalenko does a little dance to reset his feet.
Nice takedown defense from Kovalenko. No joy for Tripper on that attempt.
Nikolai Kovalenko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Tripper.
Kovalenko blocks a low kick nicely.
Kovalenko looks to land a left hand but Tripper moved out of range nicely.
Nikolai Kovalenko is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Tripper takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Nikolai Kovalenko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That kick from Tripper tenderised Kovalenko's leg. Kovalenko is trying to keep his angry face on.
Tripper throws a front kick aimed at Kovalenko's knee but Kovalenko avoids it well.
Tripper's corner calls for a 1-2. Tripper obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kovalenko tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Tripper was well out of range. Poor timing from Kovalenko.

Tripper lands with a thumping leg kick.
Tripper misses with a head kick.
Kovalenko is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Kovalenko misses with a few strikes there.
No joy there for Kovalenko, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Tripper just misses with a punch to the body.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Tripper, as that shot connected.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Tripper.

Kovalenko takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Tripper thuds a left hand into Kovalenko's body.
Good leg kick by Tripper there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack Tripper dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Tripper changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kovalenko looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Tripper throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Tripper thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kovalenko managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Tripper.

Tripper has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Kovalenko!

Tripper jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Kovalenko manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Tripper creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Kovalenko is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Tripper throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Jack Tripper showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Tripper feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Kovalenko sprawling to the canvas! Kovalenko rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Tripper finish him?!


Kovalenko is rocked!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Donk. Kovalenko catches Tripper right on the button with a cross.
Oh Kovalenko is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kovalenko throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Nice straight punches there by Kovalenko. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Kovalenko.
Kovalenko seems to have got his legs back now.

Tripper has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Tripper fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Kovalenko.
Tripper connects with a crisp jab.
Tripper throws a sloppy head kick and Kovalenko moves out of range easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kovalenko misses with a hook. Tripper ducked under it nicely.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Tripper.
Tripper avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Kovalenko lands with an overhand left.
Kovalenko throws a right hand that Tripper ducks under and follows up with a left that Tripper also avoids with ease.
Kovalenko slaps away a takedown attempt from Tripper, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kovalenko takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Kovalenko fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Tripper is out of range.
Tripper takes a swing at Kovalenko's ribcage but misses.
Tripper lands a nice looking kick to the body. Kovalenko takes a step back to recover.

Tripper throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Kovalenko doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Tripper fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Kovalenko has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Tripper shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kovalenko's guard.

Tripper throws a strike but Kovalenko rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tripper seems keen to control Kovalenko's posture.
Kovalenko has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Kovalenko got a little sloppy there for a moment and Tripper has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kovalenko has managed to get both his arms back between Tripper's legs - danger averted.

Tripper had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kovalenko defends it easily.

Jack Tripper comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Tripper has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
