Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jayden Ray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leeroy Russo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jayden Ray has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jayden Ray seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Leeroy Russo!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Russo scores with a punch to the head.


It looks like Jayden Ray has been cut.
A slow jab from Ray misses its intended target.
Russo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ray avoids it really well and circles away.
A punch combination from Ray misses.
Russo uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Ray.
Ray throws a shot from downtown. Russo moves away and avoids it.
Russo throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Ray swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Russo tries for a takedown but Ray sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

and Russo counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Russo avoids the body shot from Ray.
Russo pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Russo works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Ray misses with a right hand

and Russo counters with a head kick that drops Ray - he's looking to finish, following his stunned foe to the ground!


Ray is rocked!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Russo is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Oh Ray is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Ray is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ray is refusing to be controlled, as Russo sits in half guard.
Ray seems to have got his legs back now.
Ray tries to roll over but Russo keeps him under control.

Russo is looking for a kimura but Ray is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Russo to get the leverage.
Russo frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Russo jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Ray manages to avoid the submission attempt.
You can see the frustration on Ray's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Ray prevents Russo from improving position.

Ray is not content to let Russo control the position.
Ray is trying to improve his position.
What's Ray going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Ray is looking for a sweep.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Russo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Russo wants to control but Ray is keeping him busy.

Ray stops Russo from passing to mount.

Russo goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Ray rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Russo's guard! Nice work there by Ray!

Ray might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Russo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ray is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Ray tries to stand but Russo is controlling from the bottom.
Ray working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Russo working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ray doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ray manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Russo is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Russo looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ray is one step ahead there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ray is looking to work some ground and pound but Russo has wrist control.

Ray avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Ray wants to control from the top but Russo keeps moving.
Ray slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Russo looking for subs off his back but Ray has passed one foot through into half guard.
Ray seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Russo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ray thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jayden Ray just wasn't active enough.

Russo throws a lazy right hand but Ray sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Russo tries to land a leg kick but Ray saw it coming and moves away.
Ray pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Ray slips under a jab.
Ray scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Ray blocks a jab.
Russo takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

A nice leg kick lands there from Russo.
A slapping leg kick lands for Russo.
Ray throws a big shot that misses.
Russo slips a jab from Ray.
Russo moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Russo staying out of range there.
Russo looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jayden Ray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Leeroy Russo.
Russo tries to work over Ray's front leg with a kick but Ray checks it.
Russo throws a leg kick which misses Ray's front leg but catches the back leg as Ray tries to avoid it.
Russo takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ray misses with a hook. Russo ducked under it nicely.

Russo has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Russo loses concentration momentarily and Ray pounces with a three punch combo! Right, left, right! Russo crashes face first to the mat, out cold! Ray finishes this one with a fantastically precise combo! Great stuff.

Jayden Ray decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
