Maier comes into the arena with Apaga mas não bate blaring out of the sound system. Sepp Maier has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 19 - 0, fighting out of London, Sepp Maier!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Takashi Kadota!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Chris Edwards and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Kadota.
Kadota cracks Maier with a good jab.
Kadota throws a right hand that Maier ducks under and follows up with a left that Maier also avoids with ease.
Kadota throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The fighters circling - Kadota throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Maier shoots for a takedown but Kadota saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Nice takedown defense from Kadota. No joy for Maier on that attempt.
Kadota throws a leg kick but Maier sees it coming and moves out of range.
Maier moves in looking to clinch but Kadota pushes him off.
Maier wants to clinch up but Kadota keeps it at a distance.
Kadota looks to land a body kick but Maier moved away.
Kadota misses with a head kick.
Maier avoids the head kick by Kadota.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Kadota gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Kadota preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Kadota pulls Maier in close to prevent any damage.
Kadota looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maier is one step ahead there.
Kadota avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Maier accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Maier pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kadota is keeping the position for now.
Maier in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kadota working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Maier.
Maier connects with a couple of short punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kadota preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Maier has gone for a leg lock! Kadota slips out almost immediately though and dives into Maier's guard.

Maier is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kadota trying to control the position from guard on top but Maier is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kadota trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Maier looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Maier throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Kadota throws a big elbow that misses.

Maier is looking for a triangle but Kadota pushes his legs off easily.

Maier looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Kadota throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Maier works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Maier wants to improve his position but instead Kadota has moved into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kadota thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Maier slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Maier had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kadota defends it easily.
Kadota passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Maier is looking for a sweep.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Maier is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kadota off and has taken his back!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Maier has managed to slip his arm under Kadota's chin. This could be all over... yep, Kadota is tapping out! Submission win for Maier.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Sepp Maier!

Sepp Maier very nearly forgot to thank KAISER amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
