Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chris Hayes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mati Matt!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Matt.
Matt looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Hayes shoots in but Matt avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Hayes shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Matt as he jumps to the side.
Matt looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Matt dodges the punch combination from Hayes.
Hayes shoots in but Matt avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chris Hayes. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Matt is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Hayes.


It looks like Mati Matt has been cut.
Hayes closes the distance and lands a one-two.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Hayes successfully pulls guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Matt leaves Hayes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Hayes lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Matt backs up against the cage.
Matt stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Matt wants it to stay on the feet.
Matt ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hayes moves away.
An inside leg kick lands from Hayes.
Hayes goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Matt looks to score with a jab to the body but Hayes is just out of range.
Hayes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Matt tries to avoid it but Hayes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Matt to the ground. Matt escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Hayes shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Matt but Matt pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Matt has a takedown stuffed.
Hayes shoots in and drives through. Matt sprawls well.

Matt closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hayes's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hayes is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hayes pulls Matt in close to prevent any damage.

Hayes fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hayes is trying hard to land a takedown here. Matt sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Matt tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Hayes manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Hayes shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Matt but Matt pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Matt fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Matt gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Hayes.
Hayes is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Matt gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Hayes has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Matt uses from the top position.
Hayes throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Matt wants to get up but he can't break Hayes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Hayes seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Matt trying to control the position from guard on top but Hayes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
No luck for Hayes with that takedown attempt.

Matt darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hayes wants to control but Matt is keeping busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Matt is working for a kimura but Hayes is defending it quite comfortably.
Matt prevents Hayes from standing back up.
Hayes is looking to improve his position.

Matt is trying to control the action in half guard but Hayes is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Hayes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Matt is working away from the top position though.
Matt wants to control but Hayes is keeping him busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mati Matt wasn't active enough on the ground.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hayes throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Matt's waist but Matt gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hayes off to one side.

Hayes goes for a takedown attempt but Matt pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Hayes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Matt as he avoids it easily.
Hayes lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Matt throws a head kick but Hayes moves out of range.
Hayes shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Matt fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hayes avoids it really well and circles away.
Hayes scores with a push kick.
Hayes misses with the combination.

A decent looking body kick lands there for Hayes.
Hayes lunges at Matt with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Matt's hand.

Matt fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Hayes avoids it really well and circles away.
