PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jaric Keresztes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jaric Keresztes has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jaric Keresztes seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jaric Keresztes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paul Thomas!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Ryoma Takatsuka and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Keresztes tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Thomas counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Thomas is trying to control. Keresztes wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Thomas moves nicely into side control.
Keresztes is looking to reverse the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thomas trying to control the action but Keresztes is working from the bottom.
Keresztes takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Thomas advances to mount.

Thomas goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Keresztes turns into him and now he's in Thomas's guard.

Thomas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Keresztes can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Keresztes stopping the sweep attempt from Thomas.

Thomas wriggles free and stands up.

Thomas swats away the attempt to clinch by Keresztes.
Keresztes wants to clinch but Thomas slips to the side

and Thomas counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Thomas seems to be working for a kimura but Keresztes defends the submission attempt.

Thomas is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Keresztes doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Thomas.
Thomas wants to free his trapped foot but Keresztes is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Keresztes pushes Thomas off looking to stand but Thomas dives back in and keeps control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Thomas is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Keresztes sees it coming and defends easily.

Thomas is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Keresztes defends it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Thomas dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Thomas fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Thomas closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Thomas lands in his opponent's guard.
Thomas tries to free his leg and advance position but Keresztes is retaining full guard.

Thomas has gone for a leg lock! Keresztes slips out almost immediately though and dives into Thomas's guard.
Keresztes wants to get up but he can't break Thomas's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Thomas is pulling down on Keresztes's head to control his posture.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Thomas looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Keresztes gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Keresztes wants to clinch up but Thomas keeps it at a distance.
Thomas shoots in looking for a takedown but Keresztes manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Thomas's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Thomas shoots in and drives through. Keresztes sprawls well.
Jaric Keresztes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Thomas.
Keresztes waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Thomas.

Keresztes lands a left and a right that send Thomas crashing to the mat, dazed. Keresztes thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Thomas is rocked!


It looks like Paul Thomas has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Keresztes leaves Thomas with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Thomas shoots in but no luck this time.
Thomas tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Keresztes swivels and escapes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Keresztes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Thomas.
Thomas is breathing heavily.
Thomas keeps the fight on the outside.
Keresztes is looking to clinch.
Thomas shoots for a double leg takedown but Keresztes sprawls well. He's pushed Thomas's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Thomas swinging wildly here.

Keresztes feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Thomas sprawling to the canvas! Thomas rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Keresztes finish him?!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Keresztes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Thomas.

Keresztes slaps away a takedown attempt from Thomas, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Keresztes ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

Keresztes instigates a clinch.
Keresztes stalling against the cage.

Thomas gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Keresztes looking to control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Thomas looking to sit in guard and control but Keresztes gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Keresztes prevents Thomas from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jaric Keresztes dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Paul Thomas's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Keresztes tries to clinch up.
Jaric Keresztes is winning the standup battle so far.
Thomas closes this distance looking for a takedown but Keresztes circles away.

Thomas is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Keresztes's half guard.
Thomas not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Keresztes keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Keresztes is trying to get back to full guard.

Thomas seems to be working for a kimura but Keresztes defends the submission attempt.

Thomas is looking for a kimura but Keresztes is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Thomas to get the leverage.

Thomas is working for a kimura but Keresztes is defending it quite comfortably.
Thomas is pressing down on Keresztes's thigh, looking to free his foot. Keresztes is holding on for now.
Keresztes is trying to stand.

Keresztes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Keresztes won't allow Thomas to pass to mount.

Thomas is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Thomas is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Thomas throwing shots but Keresztes is blocking nicely.

Thomas is trying to work for a kimura but Keresztes is defending well.
Keresztes wants to get back to his feet.

Thomas looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Thomas looking for a submission but Keresztes manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.

Thomas drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Keresztes manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Thomas has Keresztes in his guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Paul Thomas comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Thomas has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A less than humble Paul Thomas misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
