PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Power (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joshua Weiss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joshua Weiss!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Power shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Weiss fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Power manages to avoid it.

Power closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Weiss to the mat! Weiss manages to get full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Weiss, as that shot connected.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Power thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Weiss gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Weiss can't escape the position.

Power is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Weiss has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Weiss!
Power is breathing heavily.
Weiss wants to control from the top but Power keeps moving.

Power had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Weiss is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Power Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Weiss's back instead.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
You can see the frustration on Weiss's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Weiss defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Power's arms.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Power is trying to stick to Weiss's back but Weiss is turning into Power. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Power's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Weiss.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Power wants to pass the guard but Weiss is keeping the position.

Weiss throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Power drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Weiss dives on top into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Weiss is working Power over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Power is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Power drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Weiss manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Power has Weiss in his guard.

Power has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Weiss can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Joshua Weiss showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Horrible takedown by Power or perhaps it was just good defense by Weiss which made him look bad.

Weiss lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Power uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Weiss has time to react.
Joshua Weiss is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Power throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Weiss's waist but Weiss gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Power off to one side.
Power has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

And that's the end of the fight!
Joshua Weiss comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Weiss winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
