PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Kowalski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and That Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Guy is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Walk by Pantera. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Joe Kowalski ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, That Guy! The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kowalski rushes Guy and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Kowalski jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Guy walks away with a smile on his face. Kowalski gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Guy tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kowalski sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Guy somewhat. Guy shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Kowalski makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Kowalski . Kowalski will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Guy is in close to Kowalski 's body, working some short punches and elbows. Guy preventing the sweep. Kowalski escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Guy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Guy postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Kowalski is trying to control the position from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Guy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Guy scoring with punches to the head and body. Guy throwing strikes from guard but Kowalski blocks nicely. Kowalski controlling the position. Kowalski trying to keep a closed guard but Guy is proving a slippery customer.
Guy drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Guy jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kowalski wants to stand and escape but Guy is having none of it. Guy is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Guy gets to his feet - Kowalski follows without any prompting. Guy slaps away a takedown attempt from Kowalski , before circling back to the center of the mat. Guy shoots in looking for a takedown. Kowalski tries to sprawl out of it but Guy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kowalski manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Kowalski clinches with his opponent.
Guy has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Kowalski is trying to keep an underhook but Guy manages to get the takedown into half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kowalski is trying to maintain the position but Guy is very close to passing his half guard. Guy postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Kowalski to stand up. Guy tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kowalski swivels and escapes. Joe Kowalski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of That Guy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kowalski fails with a takedown attempt. Guy keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Kowalski fails with the takedown and Guy counters with a shoot takedown. Kowalski fights it but they end up in guard. Guy trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Kowalski striking off his back, scoring a few points. Guy throwing strikes but missing. Guy throwing strikes but missing. Kowalski working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Guy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kowalski bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Guy's guard. Kowalski showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Guy is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Kowalski 's corner is telling him to maintain position. Guy looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Guy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Kowalski with a flurry of punches that miss. Kowalski wants to stand but Guy has a closed guard, so he can't escape. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Guy tries to strike from the bottom.
Kowalski is posturing up here but Guy has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Kowalski tries to roll out but it's too tight and Kowalski has to tap! Slick submission there by Guy!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). That Guy! That Guy decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
