PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Hines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Grendel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Hines might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Just to be different. Grendel comes into a darkened arena with his song building. I Can't Help It kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcus Hines!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, George Grendel!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab by Grendel.
Hines fails with the takedown.
Hines dodges the punch combination from Grendel.
George Grendel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Grendel swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Grendel rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hines moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hines.

Hines gets a takedown into half guard.
Grendel is trying to stand back up but Hines is controlling him
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Grendel pushes Hines off but Hines dives into side control.
Grendel is not content to let Hines control the position.

Hines looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Grendel is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Hines in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Hines throws a series of punches but Grendel avoids them all with ease.
The fighters circling - Grendel throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Hines throws a combination that misses
and Grendel counters with a left to the body.

Hines gets a takedown into half guard.
Grendel wants to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hines is tying to control. Grendel wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Hines is breathing heavily.
Still in half guard, Hines seems content to control.
Grendel pushes Hines off looking to stand but Hines dives back in and keeps control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Hines fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Marcus Hines. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hines falls off balance throwing a combination
and Grendel makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Grendel tries to bum rush Hines with a series of wild strikes but Hines uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
A lazy left from Grendel finds it's target.
Hines slips a jab and a cross from Grendel.
Grendel listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Hines dodges the punch combination from Grendel.
Hines tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Hines avoids a punch combination nicely.
Grendel throws a one two combo.
Grendel throws a right and a left that Hines avoids nicely.
Grendel swats away the attempt to clinch by Hines.
Grendel throws a combination that misses

and Hines counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Hines.
Hines tries to work over Grendel's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Hines tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Grendel wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Hines wants to get back to striking at distance but Grendel won't allow it.
Hines has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Grendel is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Grendel is trying to break the clinch but Hines has him pressed against the cage.

Hines breaks from the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Grendel tries to keep at a distance but Hines has taken the fight into the clinch.
Hines tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Grendel just stands there and leans against the cage.
Hines jumps guard but Grendel stands there with Hines around his waist. Hines gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Grendel wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Hines is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Grendel gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Hines tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Grendel just stands there and leans against the cage.

Hines breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Grendel misses with a looping right.
Hines misses with a body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Marcus Hines will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action!


Hines shoots for a double leg takedown but Grendel sprawls well. He's pushed Hines's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hines moves in looking to clinch but Grendel pushes him off.

Hines shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Grendel's guard.
Grendel wants to stand and escape but Hines is having none of it.
Grendel really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hines. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hines stands up from Grendel's guard - Hines perhaps looking for a knockout.
Hines is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Grendel.
Marcus Hines is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Hines uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Grendel.
Hines keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Grendel.

Grendel throws a jab when Hines was well out of range.
Grendel lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Grendel lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Hines with a lazy takedown attempt
and Grendel connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Grendel lands with a nice combination. Hines backs away looking to recover.
Hines has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Grendel finds it's way round the side to connect with Hines's head.
Nice sprawl there from Grendel as Hines shoots in.

Grendel slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Grendel throws a series of punches but Hines moves out of range.
Some wild striking there from Grendel.
Grendel lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Grendel scores with a nice right hand.
Grendel throws a one two combo.


Hines is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Grendel dances in with a quick combination. Hines is being worked over with jabs and crosses. Oooh, a right straight from Grendel snaps Hines's head back. Hines stumbles backwards against the cage. Grendel steps forward and delivers a right cross that connects with Hines's jaw, simultaneously knocking him out and sending his mouthpiece into the crowd! There's a worthy souvenir for the fans. This one is over folks. Hines just didn't come prepared.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). George Grendel!
