PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jim Ironheart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gim Ruut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ironheart comes to the cage accompanied by Jag - Phone Numbers. Ruut has chosen Bridge Burning - Foo Fighters as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Jim Ironheart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gim Ruut!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ironheart throws a shot from downtown. Ruut moves away and avoids it.

Ruut takes the fight into the clinch.
Ruut digs a right hand underneath Ironheart's ribcage. Ironheart let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Ironheart prevents the takedown attempt.

Ironheart breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ruut avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Ruut shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Ironheart controls Ruut momentarily but Ruut frees himself.
Ruut scoring with some ground and pound.

Ruut drops back looking for a leg! Ironheart is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ironheart manages to kick Ruut off! Ruut jumps back into Ironheart's guard.

Ruut thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Ruut has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ironheart manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Ruut is wriggling around trying to escape.
Ruut is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Ironheart takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Ironheart knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ruut on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ruut tries to hold on but Ironheart postures up.
Ruut is trying desperately to improve position.
Ruut is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Ironheart wants to control the pace but Ruut is squirming around nicely.

Ironheart controlling from mount.
Ironheart tries to control but Ruut wriggling away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jim Ironheart.
Ruut wants to clinch up but Ironheart keeps it at a distance.
Ironheart misses with a lunging right hand

and Ruut counters with a takedown into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Ruut goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Ironheart has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Ruut but great work by Ironheart.
Ruut tries to bench press Ironheart off him but Ironheart keeps the position.

Ruut is looking for a sweep.
Ruut prevents Ironheart from moving into mount.
Ruut manages to work his way to half guard, despite Ironheart's best efforts.

Ruut is looking to improve his position.
Ironheart wants to take a breather but Ruut is having none of it.
Ruut wants to get back to full guard.
Ironheart is keen to just control but Ruut is a slippery customer.

Ruut is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Ironheart pulls his head out easily.

Ruut looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Ruut is looking to improve his position.
Ironheart trying to control the pace.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ruut moves into full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ruut escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ironheart gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ironheart got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ruut has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ironheart has managed to get both his arms back between Ruut's legs - danger averted.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gim Ruut dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Ruut ducks under a wild hook from Ironheart.
Gim Ruut is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ironheart scores with a body shot.
Ruut jabs Ironheart right on the nose. Ironheart blinks but takes it well.
Ruut looks for a takedown but Ironheart sprawls well.
Ironheart fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Ironheart throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ruut sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Ironheart misses with a lunging right hand
and Ruut counters with a nice uppercut.
Jim Ironheart seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ironheart uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Ruut wants to clinch.
Ironheart misses with a few strikes there.

Ironheart throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
A swing and a miss from Ironheart.
No joy there for Ruut, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ruut throws a looping overhand right but Ironheart ducks down to avoid it.
Ironheart jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Ironheart throws a lazy right hand but Ruut sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ruut tries to close the distance and clinch but Ironheart swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Ruut shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Ruut looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Ruut lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Ironheart blocking the ground and pound attempt from Ruut.

Ruut is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Ironheart wants to control but Ruut is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Ruut seems to be looking for submissions.
Ironheart on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Ironheart tries to get out of the position.
Ironheart is not content to let Ruut control the position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ironheart is trying to control but can't.

Ruut is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ironheart is just riding it out for now. Ruut eventually gives up the hold.
Ruut is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Ironheart!

Ironheart wants to control but Ruut is having none of it.
Ruut looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Ironheart tries to reverse the position but Ruut maintains control.

Ruut is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Ironheart can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Ruut with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ruut throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Ironheart because Ruut loaded up on that one.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ironheart tries to hold on but Ruut pushes him away.
Ironheart stops Ruut from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Ruut goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Ironheart turns into him and now he's in Ruut's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gim Ruut showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Ironheart misses with an uppercut. Ruut saw that one coming.
Ironheart connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Ruut momentarily.
Ruut tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Ironheart manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
The fighters circling - Ironheart throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

A looping hook to the body misses from Ironheart. Ruut does a little dance to reset his feet.
Ruut lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Ruut staying out of range there.
Ironheart changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Ruut tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ironheart swivels and escapes.

Ruut connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Ironheart throws a predictable looking body shot

and Ruut counters with a shoot takedown. Ironheart fights it but they end up in guard.

Ironheart is trying to control the position but Ruut postures up.
Ruut wants to control from the top but Ironheart keeps moving.
Ruut looking to sit in guard and control but Ironheart gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Ruut looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ironheart would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Ruut working for a triangle but Ironheart defends it easily.
Jim Ironheart has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Ironheart stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ruut swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Well, if Ironheart is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Ironheart in particular looking to stall.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Ruut is looking for a sweep. Ironheart is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ironheart tries to pass to full mount but Ruut defends it.
Ruut tries to get to full guard but Ironheart has control of the leg.
Ironheart is controlling the pace.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jim Ironheart just wasn't active enough.
Ruut dives in and grabs Ironheart's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ironheart pushes down on Ruut's head and hops out.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gim Ruut comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Ruut winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Gim Ruut was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
