Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mario Trevis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zachary Sawyer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mario Trevis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Zachary Sawyer! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Bruno Hogan and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Trevis changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sawyer tries to avoid it but Trevis manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sawyer to the ground. Sawyer escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Sawyer misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Sawyer moves into range and clinches up with Trevis. Trevis stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Sawyer is fighting off a takedown attempt but Trevis is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Sawyer to the mat. Sawyer regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Trevis won't allow Sawyer to sweep him here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sawyer doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Trevis won't allow Sawyer to get back to his feet. Trevis wants to control from the top but Sawyer keeps moving. Sawyer wants to sweep but no luck. Sawyer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sawyer tries to land a sweep but no joy. Sawyer has Trevis pulled in close to control his posture.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Zachary Sawyer. Sawyer shoots and misses and Trevis counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Trevis seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Trevis prevents Sawyer from improving his position. Sawyer trying to control here.

Trevis with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Sawyer trying to control here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Trevis lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Sawyer tries to roll over but Trevis keeps him under control. Trevis thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sawyer's head. Sawyer is defending against the submission attempts here by Trevis.
Trevis is looking to stall here but Sawyer recovers full guard. Trevis could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Trevis decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sawyer, up you get! Sawyer shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Trevis but Trevis pushes him off and we're back to square one. Mario Trevis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zachary Sawyer. Sawyer is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Trevis. Sawyer doesn't succeed with the takedown and Trevis counters with a left to the body. Sawyer looks winded! Trevis looking for a takedown here - he's got it. This has been an exciting period of action! Sawyer escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Trevis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Trevis is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Trevis gets to his feet. Sawyer looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Trevis doesn't manage to clinch there - Sawyer circles away.
Sawyer closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Trevis quickly recovers to half guard. Trevis avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sawyer. Trevis is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sawyer pulls his head out easily. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sawyer prevents Trevis from improving his position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mario Trevis dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Sawyer tries to bum rush Trevis with a series of wild strikes but Trevis uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Sawyer misses with a takedown and Trevis counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Trevis tries to clinch but Sawyer is having none of it. Trevis tries to close the distance and clinch but Sawyer swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Trevis shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sawyer defends it nicely. Sawyer circles away from the clinch attempt.
Trevis changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sawyer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Trevis content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. You can see the frustration on Sawyer's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Trevis controlling the position from side mount. Sawyer is looking for a sweep. Trevis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sawyer on the ground. Sawyer regains half guard. Sawyer flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sawyer is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Trevis pulls his head out easily. Sawyer is breathing heavily. Sawyer is trying to maintain the position but Trevis is very close to passing his half guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Trevis in particular looking to stall. Sawyer regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Trevis. Trevis wants to control from the top but Sawyer keeps moving. Trevis working some strikes from top position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Trevis has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Sawyer is proving hard to escape from. Sawyer has his feet on Trevis's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Sawyer tries for a takedown but Trevis circles away easily and Trevis counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Sawyer! Sawyer wants to control but Trevis is having none of it. Trevis trying to control but Sawyer is having none of it. Trevis landing punches.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Trevis with the ground and pound from mount. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Trevis has hold of Sawyer's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Sawyer manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Trevis tries to control but Sawyer wriggling away. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mario Trevis dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Sawyer misses with a head kick.
Trevis closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sawyer circles away. The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Trevis checks a leg kick. Sawyer moves to clinch but Trevis breaks away and Trevis counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sawyer won't be happy with that. Trevis wants to control but Sawyer is keeping him busy. Trevis controls the position. Sawyer wants to control but Trevis postures up. Sawyer manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
That's one minute gone in the round. Sawyer is looking for a kimura here.
Trevis is concentrating on defense, preventing Sawyer from advancing position. Trevis striking from the bottom. Sawyer is trying to control. Trevis wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Sawyer takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's two minutes gone in the round. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Trevis avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Sawyer. Trevis on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Trevis tries to get out of the position. Trevis kicks Sawyer off and gets back to his feet. Sawyer closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Trevis working hard to break the clinch. Sawyer trying to stall but Trevis improves his position.
Trevis has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Sawyer avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Sawyer has had enough of the clinch but Trevis keeps him there for the moment. Trevis breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Trevis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Trevis postures up and lands a big shot to Sawyer's brow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sawyer looking for a guillotine here but Trevis defends easily.
Sawyer being controlled here, momentarily. Trevis gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Sawyer throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Trevis was covering up waiting for the punch and Sawyer finishes the takedown easily into guard. Sawyer trying to control but Trevis is working from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sawyer is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Trevis is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Trevis has escaped and now he's on top! Trevis is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sawyer trying to keep a closed guard but Trevis is proving a slippery customer.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mario Trevis. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Trevis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
