Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tomasz Kowalski! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tom Joegensen! The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight stays on the outside here - Joegensen looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Joegensen shoots for a double leg takedown but Kowalski sprawls well. He's pushed Joegensen's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Joegensen with a poor takedown and Kowalski counters by moving into the clinch. Joegensen fails to pull guard.
Tomasz Kowalski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tom Joegensen. Kowalski drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Joegensen gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Kowalski has Joegensen pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Kowalski pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Joegensen tumbling to the mat - Kowalski dives into Joegensen's guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Joegensen working a defensive guard here.
Kowalski thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Kowalski stands up from Joegensen's guard - Kowalski perhaps looking for a knockout.
That's one minute gone in the round. Some wild striking there from Kowalski.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Joegensen. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Joegensen is defended easily by Kowalski. Joegensen tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Kowalski paws at him with a jab and circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Joegensen has his takedown stuffed and Kowalski counters with a nice uppercut. Joegensen dives in and grabs Kowalski's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kowalski pushes down on Joegensen's head and hops out. Kowalski leaves Joegensen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Joegensen looks winded! Kowalski gets a takedown into half guard. Kowalski in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Joegensen tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Kowalski!
