0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johny Bourke! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Patterson shoots in and gets a takedown into Bourke's guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Bourke working a defensive guard here.
Patterson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Patterson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Patterson is pushing down on Bourke's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bourke is fighting to maintain full guard but Patterson has managed to sneak the leg through. Patterson wants to work for an arm triangle but Bourke is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Bourke looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Patterson is looking for a kimura but Bourke is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Patterson to get the leverage. Patterson seems to be looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Patterson is working for a kimura but Bourke is defending it quite comfortably.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Johny Bourke wasn't active enough on the ground. Patterson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Patterson showed some decent athleticism there. Patterson is looking for a kimura here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Patterson is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Bourke sees it coming and defends easily. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bourke feints and as Patterson raises his hands in defense, Bourke changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Patterson pushes a forearm under Bourke's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Bourke is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
