PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Sam Stout (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mats Holm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stout kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is How we do. Sam Stout has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Sam Stout!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mats Holm!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stout throws a nice looking combination but Holm bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Holm shoots in but Stout avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Stout scores with a shot to the body.
Holm should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Holm throws a head kick that misses.
Stout lands the left hand.
Stout fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Holm manages to avoid it.
Stout takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Stout connects with a good right hand that stumbles Holm. Holm circles away out of range and recomposes himself.


Holm is rocked!
Holm tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Stout swivels and escapes.
Holm is still on wobbly legs! Can Stout finish him?
Holm shoots in and drives through. Stout sprawls well.
Sam Stout has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mats Holm.
Stout will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Holm seems to have recovered his senses.
Holm blocks a head kick by Stout.
Stout throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Stout lands with a shot to the body.

Holm instigates a clinch.

Stout turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!

Holm pushes Stout away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Stout gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Holm looks gassed!
Stout in side control, just content to control the action for now.
Stout trying to control the action but Holm is working from the bottom.

Stout stands up and beckons Holm to his feet.
Stout throws a head kick but Holm moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Stout fails to land with a series of punches.
Stout throws a head kick but Holm moves out of range.
Holm shoots in looking for a takedown. Stout tries to sprawl out of it but Holm keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Stout manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Stout drives through and clinches with Holm against the cage.

Stout breaks from the clinch.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Holm.

Stout closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Stout decides to stand back up.
Stout stalks Holm and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Holm's face. Holm staggers backwards, shaken.
Stout throws a quick inside leg kick.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stout lands with a thumping leg kick.
Stout throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Stout tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Holm throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
A decent looking cross lands there for Stout.
Stout works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Holm shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Stout's guard.
Stout not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Stout being controlled here, momentarily.
Stout really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Holm postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stout is really struggling to control Holm but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Holm stopping the sweep attempt from Stout.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Holm seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Stout is controlling Holm's posture.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Holm is looking to stand up but Stout won't let him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Stout dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Holm with a lazy takedown attempt

and Stout moves into the clinch.
Stout wants a takedown but no success here.
Holm gets underhooks to prevent Stout's takedown attempt.
A bit of stalling here from Holm.

Stout pulls Holm into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stout has control of Holm's left arm, preventing Holm from doing any damage.
Holm preventing the sweep.
Stout will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Holm landing some decent shots from guard.

Stout wriggles free and stands up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Stout has closed the distance and engaged Holm in a clinch.

Holm throws a head kick that misses
and Holm takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Stout tries a head kick but it misses.
Sam Stout is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Stout tries to clinch but Holm moves out of range.

Stout looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Holm!
Holm is in all sorts of trouble here.

Stout is stalling here but it's allowed Holm to get half guard.
Holm is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Stout's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Stout's back!

Holm working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet.
Stout trying to control the action but Holm just sinks the hooks in.
Stout is trying to get back to his feet but Holm has full control of the position and if anything, Stout has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Holm gets his hands free as Stout looks to control.
Stout tries to break free.
Stout wants to get back to his feet.

Holm controlling well, preventing Stout from escaping the position.
Stout trying to control but not successfully.
Stout is trying to break free.
Holm misses with a punch to the head.
Holm trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Stout tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Stout is wriggling around trying to escape.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Holm wants to control the pace but Stout is squirming around nicely.
Stout wants to hold on but Holm pushes him away.
Stout really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Stout tries to lock up and control but Holm gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Stout gets back to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Holm is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Holm throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sam Stout dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Holm.
Stout tries to close the distance and clinch but Holm swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Holm clinches.

Stout breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A combination from Stout does no damage.
Holm tries to clinch but Stout is having none of it.
Stout closes the distance looking to clinch

and Holm counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Stout's guard now.
Stout keeping moving, preventing Holm from controlling successfully.
Holm might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Stout kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Stout has a closed guard, preventing Holm from standing up.

Stout working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Holm doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Holm manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Sam Stout overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Stout wants to sweep but no luck.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Donk. Stout catches Holm right on the button with a cross.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Stout connects with a knee to the head.
Stout has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Holm avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Stout can't get the takedown.
Stout digs a right hand underneath Holm's ribcage. Holm let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Stout tries to break the clinch but Holm is controlling the position.
Stout gets underhooks to prevent Holm's takedown attempt.

Stout escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Stout fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Stout is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Stout ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Holm moves away.
Holm tries to clinch

and Stout counters with a nice double leg into side control. Holm won't be happy with that.

Holm is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Holm is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Stout wants to control but Holm is keeping him busy.
Stout tries to advance to mount but Holm denies him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Holm is being controlled here.
Holm struggling a bit here.

Stout has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Holm takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Holm tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Stout looks to clinch

and Holm counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Stout's guard now.

Stout kicks Holm off and gets to his feet.
Mats Holm has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Mats Holm.
I think Stout has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
