Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rayce Gracie! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gianni Visnadi! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Nard Betker and Patrick Alders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gracie closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Visnadi quickly recovers to half guard. Gracie throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Gracie wants to take a breather but Visnadi is having none of it. Gracie is thwarting Visnadi's attempts to control the position. Gracie is pressing down on Visnadi's thigh, looking to free his foot. Visnadi is holding on for now. Gracie looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Gracie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Visnadi defends it well. Gracie trying to control from half guard but Visnadi is working away. Gracie throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Visnadi wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy.

Gracie goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Visnadi rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Gracie's guard! Nice work there by Visnadi! Visnadi sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gracie's guard. Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Gracie trying to hold on to Visnadi's head to control him but Visnadi postures up.
Visnadi is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Gracie works his way to full guard. Good work. Gracie looking for a guillotine here but Visnadi defends easily.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Visnadi is looking to stand up but Gracie won't let him. Gracie is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Visnadi wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving. Gracie might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gracie looking to control.
Gracie is looking for a triangle but Visnadi pushes his legs off easily.
Visnadi looking to sit in guard and control but Gracie gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Gracie won't allow Visnadi to get back to his feet. Visnadi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gracie trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Gracie trying to control the position from guard on top but Visnadi is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. OK we're going to have a standup here. Gianni Visnadi hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Gracie drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Visnadi regains half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Visnadi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Visnadi wants to get back to full guard. Visnadi wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy.
Gracie throwing shots but Visnadi is blocking nicely. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Gracie is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Rayce Gracie dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Visnadi bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Gracie is looking to reverse the position. Visnadi working the ground and pound. Visnadi wants to stand but Gracie has his arm trapped. Gracie sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Gracie looking for submissions off his back. Visnadi missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Rayce Gracie overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Visnadi not landing any meaningful shots this time. Ground and pound from Visnadi. Visnadi is looking for a kimura here.
Gracie moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gracie throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Gracie lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Visnadi! Gracie wants to finish this one by submission but Visnadi is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Gracie. Gracie tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Gracie throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Visnadi has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever. Gracie is persistently looking for the submission but Visnadi is defending it well.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. A lull in the action here.

Gracie is cranking Visnadi's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Visnadi! He's tightened the choke and Visnadi is tapping out!
