Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Janis Petke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 22 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jimmy Esperanza!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Konstantin Menshow and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Petke tries to clinch there but Esperanza circles away.

Esperanza moves into the clinch.
Petke looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Esperanza putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Petke in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Esperanza has Petke pressed against the cage, preventing Petke from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Petke tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Esperanza slowing the pace effectively.
Petke working hard to break the clinch.

Esperanza lands a takedown into guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Esperanza is looking to work some ground and pound but Petke has wrist control.
Esperanza seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jimmy Esperanza hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Esperanza clinches.
Esperanza lands a nice elbow.


It looks like Janis Petke has been cut.
Petke working hard to break the clinch.
Esperanza gets underhooks to prevent Petke's takedown attempt.
Esperanza crunches a lovely knee into Petke's ribcage.

Petke escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A slapping body kick lands there for Esperanza.
Petke tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Esperanza wants to clinch.
Petke looks to clinch
and Esperanza counters with a straight right hand.
Esperanza avoids a punch combination nicely.
Esperanza keeps the fight on the outside.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Esperanza lands a head kick. Petke smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Esperanza scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Petke throws a lazy uppercut
and Esperanza cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Esperanza rushes Petke and presses him up against the cage.
Esperanza cracks Petke with a nice body shot.
Still in the clinch, Esperanza scores with a nice short uppercut.

Esperanza gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Esperanza with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Esperanza slips a nice elbow through Petke's hands, connecting with Petke's forehead.
Petke is looking for a sweep. Esperanza is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Esperanza is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Petke trying to hold on to Esperanza's head to control him but Esperanza postures up.
Esperanza seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Esperanza thows a huge punch but Petke dodges it nicely.
Esperanza missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Petke throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Petke is trying to maintain the position but Esperanza is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Esperanza clinches.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Esperanza can't find room to land a body shot as Petke controls the action.

Esperanza has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Petke regains guard immediately.

Esperanza stands up and waves to Petke to follow him.

and Esperanza counters by moving into the clinch.

Petke successfully pulls guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Esperanza content to stall in guard here.
Let's hope that Esperanza has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Petke is trying to control the position but Esperanza postures up.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jimmy Esperanza dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Janis Petke's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Esperanza tries a head kick but it misses.
Esperanza slaps away a takedown attempt from Petke, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Nice sprawl there from Esperanza as Petke shoots in.
Janis Petke is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Petke doesn't manage to clinch there - Esperanza circles away.
Petke shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Esperanza counters with a slapping leg kick.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Janis Petke. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Esperanza throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Petke's head.
Esperanza punishes Petke's body with a nice straight punch.
Petke circles away from the clinch attempt.
Esperanza throws a nice outside leg kick.
Petke swats away the attempt to clinch by Esperanza.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Esperanza scores with a head kick. Petke tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.


Petke is rocked!

Esperanza fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Petke, pushing him back against the cage.
Oh Petke is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Esperanza gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Petke regains guard.
Esperanza gets to his feet and stands over Petke, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Petke felt that one! Esperanza unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Petke from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jimmy Esperanza!
After winning the bout, Jimmy Esperanza thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
