PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Con Dumas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Janis Petke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dumas has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Con Dumas has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 20 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Con Dumas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Janis Petke!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Vladimir Khabensky and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Dumas does no damage.
Dumas throws a lazy right hand but Petke sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A punch combination from Dumas misses.

Petke closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dumas to the mat! Dumas manages to get full guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Petke sitting in guard here, content to control.
Dumas pulls Petke in close to prevent any damage.
Petke in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Dumas is pulling down on Petke's head. It's preventing any offense from Petke, at least for the moment.
Petke trying to control but Dumas is working from the bottom.

Janis Petke has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Dumas lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Dumas scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Dumas is breathing heavily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Petke shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Dumas is trying to defend but Petke finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Petke tries to stand and escape but Dumas is controlling the position.
Dumas trying to hold on to Petke's head to control him but Petke postures up.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Janis Petke has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Petke throws a series of punches but Dumas moves out of range.
Dumas fails to land with a series of punches.
Dumas throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Petke on the side of the head.
Dumas scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Dumas throws a low kick but Petke moves out of range easily.

Petke darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dumas is not content to let Petke control the position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Petke in particular looking to stall.
Dumas works his way to full guard. Good work.
Petke must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Petke wants to stand but Dumas has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Dumas is trying to keep Petke in close.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Dumas looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Dumas blocks a head kick by Petke.

Petke pushes Dumas up against the cage in a clinch.

Petke turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Dumas is trying to control Petke's posture but Petke avoids it.
Petke tries to move into full mount but can't pass Dumas's legs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You can see the frustration on Dumas's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Dumas tries to bench press Petke off him but Petke keeps the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Both fighters take a look at the clock.
Petke has control of an arm but Dumas manages to advance to Petke's back!
Dumas really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Petke.
Petke trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Petke wants to get back to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Janis Petke dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Con Dumas's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Dumas avoids a punch combination nicely.
Petke misses with a wild body shot.
Petke misses with an uppercut. Dumas saw that one coming.
Dumas throws a nice looking combination but Petke bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Dumas fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Dumas is looking to slow Petke down with leg kicks.

Dumas tries to keep at a distance but Petke has taken the fight into the clinch.
Petke is trying to break free.

Petke has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Dumas is trying to keep an underhook but Petke manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Dumas has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Petke. Oh but Dumas has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Petke goes limp - he's gone! Dumas jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Con Dumas!
Con Dumas very nearly forgot to thank CEC Nutrition Q160 & Loans amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
