Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pretzel Vendor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Julio Acosta! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Summer Carpenter and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vendor shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Acosta is trying to defend but Vendor finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Vendor seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Pretzel Vendor just wasn't active enough. Acosta throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Acosta changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Vendor looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
That's one minute gone in the round. Acosta tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. You can see the frustration on Vendor's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Vendor is holding Acosta down, trying to stall. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Acosta tries to move into full mount but can't pass Vendor's legs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vendor manages to work his way to half guard, despite Acosta's best efforts. Vendor keeping control of the position. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Acosta is looking to stall here but Vendor recovers full guard. Acosta must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Acosta throws an elbow that misses. Vendor uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Acosta's guard. Nice move by Vendor!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vendor content to stall in guard here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Vendor drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Vendor jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Vendor is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Acosta being controlled here, momentarily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Vendor seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Acosta for as long as he can get away with.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Pretzel Vendor wasn't doing enough on the ground. Acosta tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Acosta shoots and misses and Vendor counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Acosta's guard now. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Vendor content to stall in guard here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Pretzel Vendor dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Vendor misses with a takedown attempt - Acosta sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Acosta shoots in looking for a takedown but Vendor manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Acosta's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Acosta fails in his attempt to clinch. Acosta misses with a takedown and Vendor counters with a single leg into guard. Acosta didn't expect that. Vendor passes Acosta's right leg, so he's now in half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Vendor controlling the action here. Vendor thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Acosta's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vendor looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Acosta is looking to control Vendor's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Acosta avoid being mounted?
Pretzel Vendor has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Vendor feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Vendor sitting in guard here, content to control. Vendor has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Pretzel Vendor just wasn't active enough. Acosta tries to clinch but Vendor moves out of range. Pretzel Vendor is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Acosta scores with a leg kick.
Vendor throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Acosta tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Vendor is in Acosta's guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Vendor is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Vendor gets to his feet. Acosta looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Acosta throws a nice inside leg kick. Horrible takedown by Vendor or perhaps it was just good defense by Acosta which made him look bad. Acosta gets a clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Acosta tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Vendor just stands there and leans against the cage. Pretzel Vendor has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Julio Acosta. Vendor turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Vendor manages to end up in side control. Vendor is staying tight to Acosta's torso, preventing him from escaping. Acosta struggling a bit here. Vendor happy to just control the position for now. Vendor has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Acosta is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Vendor yanks on the arm and Acosta is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Vendor.
