Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Zack Fair! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Renato Rua! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fair moves out of range as Rua throws a body kick.
Rua lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Fair at a distance.

Fair slips under a jab. Rua defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Fair. Rua misses with a low kick. Rua throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Fair slips under a jab. Rua connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Renato Rua seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rua throws a hook but Fair avoids it easily. Fair moves out of range as Rua strikes. A momentary lapse in concentration from Fair enables Rua to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fair manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Rua is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rua slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Rua staying calm. Fair tries to bench press Rua off him but Rua keeps the position. Rua happy to just control the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rua tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it. A lull in the action here. Fair is not content to let Rua control the position. Fair is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Fair gets back to half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rua sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Fair defending well though. Rua is keen to just control but Fair is a slippery customer. Rua sitting and controlling from the half guard. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Rua lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Fair looks like he's trying to stand up.
Fair tries to get to full guard but Rua has control of the leg.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Rua lands a nice short elbow. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Fair is pressing down on Rua's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Rua wants to control from the top but Fair keeps moving. Fair pushes a forearm under Rua's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Rua is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Zack Fair! A very excited looking Zack Fair made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet.
