PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Konrad Kurze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stevie Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walker has chosen Tragically Hip- Thugs as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Stevie Walker was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Konrad Kurze!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 16 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Stevie Walker!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kurze shoots in for a double leg but Walker sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
The fight stays on the outside here - Walker looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kurze pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Walker avoids the body shot from Kurze.
Kurze lunges at Walker with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Walker's hand.
Kurze fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Walker manages to avoid it.
Kurze fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Walker misses with a straight right.
Kurze throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kurze scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Walker throws a jab when Kurze was well out of range.
Walker swinging wildly here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Good exchange - Kurze coming out on top.
Walker looks for the body kick but Kurze saw that one coming.
Kurze swings away with a body shot that misses
and Walker connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
A punch lands to the side of Kurze 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Walker is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Walker tries to land a leg kick but Kurze saw it coming and moves away.
Konrad Kurze seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Walker on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Kurze. Kurze obviously looking to wear him down.
Kurze throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Kurze misses with a body shot.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
No luck for Kurze with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Konrad Kurze. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kurze has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Walker.
Kurze keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Kurze moves away from the strike by Walker.
Walker lands a head kick. Kurze smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A swing and a miss from Kurze.
Walker is looking to score with low kicks.
Kurze lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Kurze fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Walker sprawls well initially but Kurze persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Kurze is looking for a kimura but Walker is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kurze to get the leverage.
Kurze missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kurze misses with a head shot. Walker uses the momentum to regain guard.
Walker is pulling down on Kurze's head. It's preventing any offense from Kurze, at least for the moment.
Let's hope that Walker has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Kurze with a flurry of punches that miss.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kurze controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Kurze wants to control from the top but Walker keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Konrad Kurze.
Kurze pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kurze lands a jab to the head.
Kurze throws a hook to the side of Walker's head but Walker sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Kurze uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Konrad Kurze will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


The fighters circle momentarily. Walker darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.


Kurze is rocked!
Kurze misses with a jab to the body

and Walker counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Kurze misses with a body punch.
Walker doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Walker missing with knees to the body.

Kurze jumps guard and drags Walker to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Kurze trying to keep a closed guard but Walker is proving a slippery customer.
Kurze pulls Walker in close to his closed guard and prevents Walker from doing any damage or advancing position.

Kurze has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Walker should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Kurze has tightened it up now! Walker should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Konrad Kurze!
An out of breath Konrad Kurze thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
