PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rodney Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Hyatt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brown comes into the arena with Battle Hymn - Manowar blaring out of the sound system. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Hyatt!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Russell Pearce and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hyatt stuffs the takedown.
Hyatt leaves Brown with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Hyatt changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Hyatt misses with an uppercut. Brown saw that one coming.
Hyatt connects with the punch.
Brown takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Brown fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rodney Brown. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Brown gets a takedown into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hyatt can do anything to dispel that myth.
Brown lands strikes from half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Brown is pressing down on Hyatt's thigh, looking to free his foot. Hyatt is holding on for now.
Brown keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Hyatt is trying to maintain the position but Brown is very close to passing his half guard.
Hyatt pushes Brown off looking to stand but Brown dives back in and keeps control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Brown has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Brown wants to take a breather but Hyatt is having none of it.
Hyatt is trying to stand.
Brown looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Rodney Brown just wasn't active enough.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Brown is defended easily by Hyatt.
Hyatt lands a jab to Brown's midsection.
Jimmy Hyatt is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Hyatt darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Hyatt scores with a shot to the body.
Brown gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Hyatt counters with a right hand to the body.
Brown is breathing heavily.
Brown takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hyatt fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Brown throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hyatt's waist but Hyatt gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Brown off to one side.
Brown takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Hyatt dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Hyatt's corner calls for a 1-2. Hyatt obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Hyatt digs a good hook to Brown's body.
Brown looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Hyatt is fending him off so far but Brown persists. Nope, Hyatt circles away and we're back to standing.
Hyatt scores with a jab. Brown acknowledges it with a nod of the head.


Brown is rocked!
Brown checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Hyatt throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Brown takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Oh Brown is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hyatt throws an overhand right that lands on Brown's shoulder, as Brown tries to avoid the shot.
Brown uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Hyatt.
Brown with a lazy takedown attempt
and Hyatt counters with a crisp right that sends Brown to the canvas! Hyatt follows up with punches from the mount and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jimmy Hyatt!
