The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nishio keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Nishio is breathing heavily. Pedersen wants to clinch. Pedersen keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Pedersen doesn't succeed with the takedown and Nishio counters by clinching up. Nishio could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Pedersen is looking to control Nishio's arms but Nishio gets an underhook and turns him. Now Pedersen has his back to the cage. Nishio works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Pedersen throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Nishio postures up.
Pedersen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nishio doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Pedersen is tightening it up a little... Nishio has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Nishio reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Nishio taps out! Nice BJJ there by Pedersen!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Kent Pedersen!
