Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Diego Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Diego Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Gwen Towbar and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horrible takedown by Sanchez or perhaps it was just good defense by Johnson which made him look bad.
Sanchez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sanchez tries to land a leg kick but Johnson saw it coming and moves away.
Sanchez fails with the takedown.

Johnson closes the distance and clinches.
Come on Johnson - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Johnson is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Sanchez pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Sanchez dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Johnson wants a takedown.
Johnson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Sanchez prevents it.
Diego Sanchez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Johnson.
Johnson swings wildly with an uppercut but Sanchez uses good head movement to avoid it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Johnson is trying to drag Sanchez to the mat but Sanchez just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Sanchez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Johnson is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Sanchez blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Johnson tries for a takedown but Sanchez manages to get underhooks.
Johnson trying to control the position but instead, Sanchez has worked for underhooks and has pushed Johnson into the cage.

Sanchez gets control of Johnson's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sanchez will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Johnson passes Sanchez's left leg - he's now in half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sanchez keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Johnson is nestled in close to Sanchez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Sanchez trying to control but Johnson postures up.
Sanchez is looking to improve his position.

Sanchez actively working from the bottom here.
Johnson is trying to control the action in half guard but Sanchez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnson is pressing down on Sanchez's thigh, looking to free his foot. Sanchez is holding on for now.
Johnson prevents Sanchez from standing back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sanchez avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Johnson.
Sanchez tries to get to full guard but Johnson has control of the leg.
Sanchez gets back to full guard.
Johnson prevents Sanchez from getting back to his feet.

Sanchez is looking for a triangle but Johnson pushes his legs off easily.
Johnson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Sanchez throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Johnson escapes and throws Sanchez's legs to the side, diving into side control!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sanchez sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Sanchez looking for submissions off his back.
Sanchez has hold of Johnson's hands but Johnson slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Johnson throws a strike but Sanchez avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Johnson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sanchez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but John Johnson will probably get the nod.
That's time! Sanchez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A big right from Johnson misses.
Sanchez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Johnson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Johnson throws a series of punches but Sanchez moves out of range.
Diego Sanchez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sanchez misses with a left hand

and Johnson counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Sanchez!
Sanchez dodges the ground and pound from Johnson.
Johnson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sanchez keeps working.
Sanchez tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Johnson easily slips into full mount!

Sanchez's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Johnson scoring with strikes but Sanchez is staying in there.
Johnson lands a couple of good shots and Sanchez has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Johnson is looking to finish with some ground and pound!
Sanchez is trying to remain composed but Johnson is hammering down strikes to the side of his head.
Sanchez covers up after that shot from Johnson.
Johnson has the hooks in. Sanchez is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Johnson lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.


Sanchez is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sanchez trying to control the hands but Johnson breaks the grip.
Oh Sanchez is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Johnson lands strikes from the back and Sanchez isn't doing enough to escape the position. The referee steps in to end the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Johnson!
John Johnson very nearly forgot to thank Sydney BEAST Clothing amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
