Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kosi Mazaki! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ari Sotaheimo! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, John Mangel and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A jab from Mazaki misses. Mazaki throws an ugly left hook that misses
letting Sotaheimo counter with a right hand. Ari Sotaheimo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Mazaki misses with a two punch combination.
Mazaki throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Mazaki connects with a looping right hand.
Mazaki on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Sotaheimo closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Mazaki working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely. Sotaheimo utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Mazaki has a couple of punches blocked by Sotaheimo.

Sotaheimo with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head. Sotaheimo looking to throw knees to the head but Mazaki is blocking nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Sotaheimo landing knees to the head.
Sotaheimo working Mazaki over with knees to the body. Mazaki is breathing heavily. Mazaki tightens his grip and picks Sotaheimo up, before dumping him to the ground. Sotaheimo manages to land in guard. Sotaheimo tries to land a sweep but no joy. Sotaheimo wants to stand up but Mazaki is controlling him. Mazaki drops back, looking for a kneebar! Sotaheimo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Sotaheimo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Sotaheimo! Sloppy strikes there by Sotaheimo. Mazaki defending against the ground and pound. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sotaheimo throwing shots but missing, from side control. Mazaki manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Mazaki is looking to take a break and control but Sotaheimo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mazaki prevents Sotaheimo from improving his position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Sotaheimo can do anything to dispel that myth. Mazaki thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Mazaki is looking to take a break and control but Sotaheimo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Mazaki thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sotaheimo's head. Sotaheimo trying to control from the bottom.
Mazaki thows a huge punch but Sotaheimo dodges it nicely.
Mazaki wants to free his trapped foot but Sotaheimo is holding on for dear life with his legs. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Mazaki seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sotaheimo does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mazaki moves nicely into side control. Sotaheimo struggling a bit here. Sotaheimo prevents Mazaki from moving into mount. Sotaheimo is trying to control Mazaki's posture but Mazaki avoids it. Mazaki fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Mazaki tries for a kimura but Sotaheimo is defending well. Mazaki is trying to get an arm triangle but Sotaheimo is defending well. Mazaki advances nicely into full mount.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sotaheimo is working to get back to half guard.
Sotaheimo bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Mazaki escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sotaheimo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Sotaheimo working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mazaki controls Sotaheimo momentarily but Sotaheimo frees himself. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sotaheimo accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Mazaki utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Sotaheimo stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mazaki swivels though and keeps the full guard. Sotaheimo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mazaki works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Mazaki wants to sweep but no luck. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Ari Sotaheimo will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Mazaki tries to move into range but Sotaheimo moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Sotaheimo bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Mazaki chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Sotaheimo can pounce on him.
Sotaheimo darts in and clinches Mazaki up against the cage. Mazaki goes for a takedown attempt but Sotaheimo pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Sotaheimo throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Mazaki shoots in for a takedown but Sotaheimo shows good takedown defense. Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Sotaheimo. Mazaki shrugs it off though. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Sotaheimo avoids the body shot from Mazaki.
Sotaheimo displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Mazaki throws out the jab. Mazaki takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. Mazaki throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Mazaki takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Mazaki takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards. Ari Sotaheimo seems to be getting the better of the standup. Sotaheimo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Mazaki swats him away and circles back towards the center. Jab, jab by Sotaheimo - just one landing.
Mazaki is rocked!
That's one minute gone in the round. Mazaki takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Oh Mazaki is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Sotaheimo cracks Mazaki with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Mazaki falls to his knees and Sotaheimo doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:09 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ari Sotaheimo!
