Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stig Helmer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ivan Drago!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, David Schapiro and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drago lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Helmer backs up against the cage.


It looks like Stig Helmer has been cut.
Drago tries to bum rush Helmer with a series of wild strikes but Helmer uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Helmer slips a jab and a cross from Drago.
Drago throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Helmer fails with a takedown attempt.
Helmer jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Drago throws a nice looking combination but Helmer bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Drago lands an overhand right.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Helmer misses with a left hand
and Drago counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Helmer manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Drago on his heels. He'll look to pass Drago's guard now, I'm sure.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Helmer lands a couple of elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Helmer chips away with some ground and pound.

Helmer is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Helmer is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Drago is just riding it out for now. Helmer eventually gives up the hold.
Drago pushes Helmer off looking to stand but Helmer dives back in and keeps control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Drago can do anything to dispel that myth.

Helmer is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Helmer throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Drago pushes Helmer off looking to stand but Helmer dives back in and keeps control.

Helmer is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Drago doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Helmer.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Drago wants to get back to his feet.

Helmer is working for a kimura but Drago is defending it quite comfortably.

Helmer is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Drago defends it well.
Helmer thows a huge punch but Drago dodges it nicely.

Helmer has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Drago defend it? Helmer steps over the head and cranks it - Drago is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Helmer!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Stig Helmer!
A less than humble Stig Helmer misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
