Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Deb The Machine! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gooby Goober! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Lou da Vinci and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Goober slaps away a takedown attempt from The Machine, before circling back to the center of the mat. Nice sprawl there from Goober as The Machine shoots in. The Machine fails with an attempt to clinch.
The Machine throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Goober avoids the body shot from The Machine.
The Machine misses with a double jab
and Goober counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. The Machine fails with the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Deb The Machine. That's going to take a lot out of him. The Machine fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. The Machine shoots in for a takedown but Goober shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Goober staying out of range there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Goober slips under a jab. The Machine tries a head kick but it misses.
Horrible takedown by The Machine or perhaps it was just good defense by Goober which made him look bad. The Machine shoots in but Goober avoids the takedown attempt easily. The Machine pushes Goober up against the cage in a clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The Machine has Goober pressed against the cage, preventing Goober from circling away and getting back to striking at range. The Machine is trying to pull guard but Goober has him pressed against the cage. Goober has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics The Machine uses from the top position. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Goober is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The Machine thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Goober looking for subs off his back but The Machine has passed one foot through into half guard.
The Machine uses his free foot to push down on Goober's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Goober.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Goober is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Goober has left one of his arms exposed and The Machine doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Goober screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Deb The Machine! In his post fight interview, Deb The Machine started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
