PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tom McReary (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Bagshaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tom McReary looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Tom McReary!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Matthew Bagshaw!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Richard Clark and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McReary misses with a few strikes there.
Bagshaw checks a leg kick nicely.
McReary will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

McReary shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Bagshaw has hold of McReary's hands but McReary slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Bagshaw is refusing to be controlled, as McReary sits in half guard.
McReary looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bagshaw with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McReary tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Bagshaw.
Bagshaw tries to get to full guard but McReary has control of the leg.
Bagshaw makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Bagshaw.
Bagshaw wants to get back to his feet but McReary is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

McReary is breathing heavily.

Bagshaw is in close to McReary's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Bagshaw is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Bagshaw wants to stand but McReary has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Bagshaw trying to control the position from guard on top but McReary is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

McReary looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Bagshaw passes into half guard.
McReary has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Bagshaw is working away from the top position though.
McReary wants to control the action here but instead Bagshaw manages to pass to full mount!
Bagshaw lands a big shot there that rocks McReary but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Bagshaw stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Bagshaw shoots in but McReary avoids the takedown attempt easily.

McReary is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Bagshaw defends it well.

McReary stands and steps away. Bagshaw gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

McReary shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than McReary was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Bagshaw is looking to improve his position but McReary isn't that keen on the idea.
McReary fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McReary controlling the position easily from mount.

McReary goes for an armbar but Bagshaw turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Bagshaw.
Bagshaw stands and throws McReary's legs to the side, diving into side control.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

McReary makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
McReary moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

McReary fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bagshaw sprawls well initially but McReary persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
McReary is stalling here. Bagshaw is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! McReary seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Bagshaw has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
McReary is looking for a sweep.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Horrible takedown by McReary or perhaps it was just good defense by Bagshaw which made him look bad.

McReary changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bagshaw looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

McReary throws a strike but Bagshaw avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
McReary lands a jab to the nose.
McReary shoots in and drives through. Bagshaw sprawls well.
Bagshaw looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? McReary is fending him off so far but Bagshaw persists. Nope, McReary circles away and we're back to standing.

McReary drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bagshaw manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now McReary has Bagshaw in his guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

McReary pushes Bagshaw off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
