Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Lorenzo Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Byrd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Michael Byrd will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lorenzo Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Byrd! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Emerson Jorge and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva lands with an uppercut that bounces Byrd off the cage and back into range. Byrd bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Silva is looking to regain half guard here but Byrd keeps moving and retains side control. Silva stops Byrd from passing to mount. Byrd moves into full mount! Byrd jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Silva is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Silva and Byrd has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Silva is looking for a sweep. Byrd tries to advance to mount but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva is trying to control Byrd's posture but Byrd avoids it. Byrd is trying to get an arm triangle but Silva is defending well. Silva tries to buck Byrd off but Byrd is having none of it. Byrd stands up. Byrd with a lazy takedown attempt and Byrd takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Byrd misses with a takedown attempt and Silva counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Byrd! Byrd sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Byrd trying to hold on to Silva's head to control him but Silva postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Silva sitting and controlling from the half guard. Silva tries to stand and escape but Byrd is controlling the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Byrd looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Byrd is trying to maintain the position but Silva is very close to passing his half guard. Silva is trying to control. Byrd wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Silva knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Byrd on the ground. Byrd works his way to full guard. Good work. Silva trying to control the position from guard on top but Byrd is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Lorenzo Silva has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Byrd throws the kick towards the body but Silva avoids it. Silva rushes Byrd and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Byrd gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Silva regains guard.
Byrd stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Silva swivels though and keeps the full guard. Silva is trying to control the position but Byrd postures up. Byrd works a leg free and moves into half guard. Silva wants to control but Byrd passes into side.
Silva is looking for a sweep.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Silva is not content to let Byrd control the position. Silva is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Byrd is working for a submission of some sort.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Byrd stands up and beckons Silva to his feet. Michael Byrd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Silva throws a big shot that misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Michael Byrd will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Byrd misses with a takedown and Silva counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Lorenzo Silva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Byrd shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Byrd showed some decent athleticism there. Byrd looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Silva is looking to escape. Silva is looking to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round. Byrd moves nicely into side control. Byrd is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Silva knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Byrd throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Byrd is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Silva is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Byrd goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Silva rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Byrd's guard! Nice work there by Silva! Byrd avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Silva tries to free his leg and advance position but Byrd is retaining full guard. Silva controlling from the top position. Byrd throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Silva makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Silva is working Byrd over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Byrd is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Silva is aware though and is defending well. Byrd is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Byrd preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Silva wants to stand but Byrd is controlling his posture from full guard. Byrd is looking for a triangle but Silva pushes his legs off easily.
Byrd is breathing heavily. Silva's corner is telling him to maintain position. Byrd is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Byrd looking for a guillotine here but Silva defends easily.
Silva with a flurry of punches that miss. Silva has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Byrd is looking to stand up but Silva isn't so interested in that idea. Byrd has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Silva is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Byrd. Silva is looking to take a break and control but Byrd is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Silva decides to take the fight back to the feet. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Byrd gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Silva counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Byrd thinking. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Michael Byrd will probably get the nod - 10:9. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Byrd fails with the takedown and Silva counters with a nice body shot. Silva lands with a nice body punch. Byrd with a poor takedown letting Silva counter with a right hand. Byrd shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Silva counters with a straight right hand. Lorenzo Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Byrd. Byrd takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Silva throws a lazy uppercut
and Byrd counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Byrd. Byrd is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Silva to keep the fight standing. Silva goes for a takedown in the clinch but Byrd prevents it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva keeps control of Byrd as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Byrd lands a left hand.

Silva's corner is telling him to maintain position. Michael Byrd has got the better of the ground game so far. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Silva accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Byrd looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Silva has picked Byrd up and slammed him! Byrd can't keep hold of the triangle and Silva manages to pass to side control! Silva tries to move to mount but Byrd blocks the move with his legs. Silva is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Byrd is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Byrd is looking for a sweep.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Silva staying calm. Byrd taking a bit of punishment here - Silva scoring with strikes. Silva is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Byrd will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. Silva looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Byrd manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Silva is thwarting Byrd's attempts to control the position. Silva is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Silva lands a nice short elbow. Silva wants to work for an arm triangle but Byrd is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Byrd wants to control but Silva is keeping busy.
Byrd looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Silva is looking to advance position but Byrd won't allow it. Silva seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Byrd trying to control from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Silva in particular looking to stall. Silva working over Byrd with some ground and pound. Byrd looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Silva trying to control the pace. Byrd works his way to full guard. Good work. Byrd being controlled here, momentarily. Byrd utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Lorenzo Silva has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Michael Byrd is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Silva preventing the sweep. Silva with a nice head shot there.
