Backlund bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Maynard is looking to reverse the position.
Maynard wants to get back to his feet.
Backlund has knee on belly momentarily but Maynard bucks him off and regains half guard.
Backlund is controlling the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Backlund is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Maynard manages to get to full guard.
Backlund trying to control the position from guard on top but Maynard is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Maynard wants to stand and escape but Backlund is having none of it.

Backlund really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Maynard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Maynard is looking to sinch up a triangle. Backlund throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Maynard's body to avoid the submission. Maynard has instead reached around Backlund's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Maynard arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
