PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jacob Holm (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Horton Hoo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jacob Holm!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Horton Hoo!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Jorge Garcia and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Holm takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Hoo throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Holm.
A solid leg kick lands there for Hoo.
Holm listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Holm swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Holm looks to score with a jab to the body but Hoo is just out of range.
Hoo fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Holm has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Hoo slips a jab from Holm.
Hoo connects with a solid leg kick.
Holm tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Holm throws a jab when Hoo was well out of range.
Holm throws a looping overhand right but Hoo ducks down to avoid it.
Hoo throws a leg kick which misses Holm's front leg but catches the back leg as Holm tries to avoid it.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hoo connects with a high kick.


It looks like Jacob Holm has been cut.
Holm scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Hoo doesn't seem bothered though.
Hoo lands with a slapping head kick.
Hoo fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Holm.
Hoo slips under a jab from Holm.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hoo lands a slapping body shot.
Hoo scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
A good leg kick by Hoo.
Hoo throws a leg kick which misses Holm's front leg but catches the back leg as Holm tries to avoid it.
Holm is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Holm fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Hoo is out of range.
An inside leg kick lands from Hoo.
Hoo turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Hoo lands a big head kick that sends Holm tumbling to the mat! Hoo takes a step backwards and waves Holm back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Hoo.

Hoo closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Holm did well to prevent Hoo getting side control.
Hoo thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Holm is breathing heavily.

Hoo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Holm defends it well.
Hoo working over Holm with some ground and pound. Holm looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hoo not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Hoo wants to pass to mount but Holm is defending the position.

Hoo is trying to work for a kimura but Holm is defending well.

Hoo looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Hoo missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Well, if Hoo is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Holm won't allow Hoo to pass to mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hoo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Holm's head.
Holm knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hoo on the ground.
Hoo passes to full mount!
Hoo looking to control but Holm is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Hoo controlling his opponent.
Hoo breaks from Holm's wrist control and lands an elbow.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hoo throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Holm because Hoo loaded up on that one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Horton Hoo dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jacob Holm's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Holm misses with an uppercut.
Hoo ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Hoo feints and as Holm raises his hands in defense, Hoo changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Holm keeping full guard, as Hoo tries to pass.
Hoo working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Holm keeping moving, preventing Hoo from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hoo might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Holm haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Hoo stands and throws Holm's legs to the side, diving into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hoo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Holm knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Holm parries the strikes from Hoo easily there. Hoo is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Holm to escape.
Holm is looking to regain half guard here but Hoo keeps moving and retains side control.
Hoo has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Hoo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Holm, who protects the arm well.
Hoo in side control, throwing shots but Holm defends.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hoo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Holm knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Holm is looking to regain half guard here but Hoo keeps moving and retains side control.
Hoo misses with the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Hoo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Holm is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Holm is looking for a sweep.
Hoo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Hoo thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Hoo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Holm is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Hoo is looking to take a break and control but Holm is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Hoo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Holm knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Hoo tries for a kimura but Holm is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Horton Hoo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Hoo moves away from the strike by Holm.
Holm connects with a jab.
A looping hook to the body misses from Holm. Hoo does a little dance to reset his feet.
Holm takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Hoo lands a leg kick that knocks Holm off balance momentarily.
Holm looks to land a left hand but Hoo moved out of range nicely.
A slapping leg kick lands for Hoo.
Hoo lands a head kick. Holm smiles back at him and beckons him forward.


Jacob Holm's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hoo displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Holm throws out the jab.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Holm crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Hoo - the referee stops the clock and Holm gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Hoo. Holm manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Hoo connects with a solid leg kick.
Hoo feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Holm's calf.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hoo throws a head kick that half lands.


Jeez, Jacob Holm's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

Holm gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hoo to score an easy takedown into full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hoo landing with the ground and pound.

Hoo drops back looking for a leg! Holm is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Holm manages to kick Hoo off! Hoo jumps back into Holm's guard.
Hoo forces his way into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nice strikes from Hoo there.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Jacob Holm's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:34 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Horton Hoo!
