PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terry Crews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones's entrance music is Hi my name is. A fine choice. Jon Jones had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 266.2lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jon Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Terry Crews!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crews lands a really nice looking cross but Jones seems unphased.


It looks like Jon Jones has been cut.

Crews looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Jones!
Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Crews wants to stand but Jones is controlling his arm.
Crews controlling from side mount.
Jones manages to get back to half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Crews with the ground and pound but Jones uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Crews lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Jones will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Crews throwing strikes but missing.
Crews is looking to work some ground and pound but Jones has wrist control.
Crews wants to stand and escape but instead Jones has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Crews is controlling Jones's posture.

Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Crews is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones drops back looking for a leg! Crews is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Crews manages to kick Jones off! Jones jumps back into Crews's guard.
Jones trying to control but Crews is working from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Jones prevents Crews from getting back to his feet.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Crews is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jon Jones wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Jones darts in and clinches Crews up against the cage.
Jones misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Jones gets underhooks to prevent Crews's takedown attempt.
Crews wants a takedown but no success here.

Crews wants the takedown. Jones is fighting it off but Crews persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Jones's guard against the cage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Crews loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Jones trying to keep a closed guard but Crews is proving a slippery customer.
Crews has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jones is proving hard to escape from.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Crews wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.

Jones drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Crews is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Jones asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Jones has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Jones moves into the clinch successfully.
Crews is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Jones is defending well for now.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Crews is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Jones pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Jon Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Terry Crews.

Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Crews has a takedown stuffed.
Crews throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jones's waist but Jones gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Crews off to one side.
Jon Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Crews throws a right and a left that Jones avoids nicely.
Jones misses with a wild body shot.

Crews changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jones looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Jones regains half guard.
Jones is trying to control but can't.
Jones blocking the ground and pound attempt from Crews.
Jones is trying to maintain the position but Crews is very close to passing his half guard.
Jones pushes Crews off looking to stand but Crews dives back in and keeps control.

Jones is defending against the submission attempts here by Crews.

Jones is refusing to be controlled, as Crews sits in half guard.
Jones is pressing down on Crews's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Jones is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Jones is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Crews is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Crews misses with a double jab.

Crews closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Crews lands a decent elbow from side control.
Jones taking a bit of punishment here - Crews scoring with strikes.
Crews creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Crews tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Crews is breathing heavily.
Crews throwing strikes but Jones manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Crews can do anything to dispel that myth.
Crews wants to get back to his feet.

Crews is trying to control Jones's posture but Jones avoids it.
Jones gets to mount! Crews was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Crews really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Jones throwing strikes here but Crews is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Jones takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Terry Crews has got the better of the ground game so far.

Crews tries to reverse the position but Jones maintains control.
Jones trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Crews is desperately trying to improve his position but Jones has a good base and remains in mount.
Crews is squirming around, avoiding Jones's attempts to control the action.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Crews wants to hold on but Jones pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Terry Crews showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Jones shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Crews as he avoids it easily.
Jones defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Crews.
Jones slips a jab and a cross from Crews.
Crews fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Crews shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Crews tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Crews throws a head kick that misses.
Jones wants to clinch up but Crews keeps it at a distance.
Crews lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Crews.

Crews gets tackled into the cage by Jones. Jones maintains the clinch.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Crews. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
With the fighters up against the cage, Jones throws an elbow but misses.

Jones pulls guard effortlessly.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jones keeping moving, preventing Crews from controlling successfully.

Crews takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Jones controls Crews momentarily but Crews frees himself.
Crews wanted to stand there but Jones had control of the position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Crews in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Jones looking to hit a scissor sweep but Crews is one step ahead there.

Terry Crews has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Jones enables Crews to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Jones manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Crews throws an elbow that misses. Jones uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Crews's guard. Nice move by Jones!

Jones passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Jones tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

Jones wants to control but Crews is keeping him busy.
Crews is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jon Jones just wasn't active enough.

Crews looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Terry Crews is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Crews lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Terry Crews comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Crews winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
