Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alpo Martinez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Diem Miles! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miles gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Martinez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Martinez content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Martinez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Miles on the ground. Martinez trying to control but Miles is working from the bottom. Miles keeping full guard, as Martinez tries to pass. Martinez trying to control but Miles is working from the bottom. Miles manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
That's one minute gone in the round. Miles throws some wild stikes that Martinez manages to avoid easily.
Martinez is in all sorts of trouble here.
Miles trying to control but Martinez is having none of it. Miles is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Martinez just holding on.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Martinez is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Martinez in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Miles trying to control but Martinez is having none of it. Miles unloading with bombs!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Miles controlling from mount. Miles misses with a head shot. Miles with shots to the head and body - Martinez looks very uncomfortable down there. Miles tries to control but Martinez wriggling away. Miles looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Martinez tries to buck Miles off but he can't manage it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Martinez tries to hold on but Miles postures up. Miles has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Martinez avoids a strike by Miles and manages to complete a very nice reversal in the process, to end up in Miles's guard! Fantastic escape!
Miles keeping moving, preventing Martinez from controlling successfully. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Miles is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Diem Miles dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Miles has his takedown stuffed and Martinez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Miles's guard. Miles looking to hit a scissor sweep but Martinez is one step ahead there. Miles trying to control the position.
Martinez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Miles works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Martinez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Miles swivels though and keeps the full guard. Martinez trying to control but Miles is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Miles wants to sweep but no luck. Martinez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Miles tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Martinez keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. No luck for Miles with that takedown attempt. Alpo Martinez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Diem Miles. Martinez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Martinez trying to control the position from guard on top but Miles is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Miles throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land. Martinez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Miles trying to keep a closed guard but Martinez is proving a slippery customer.

Martinez is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Miles keeping moving, preventing Martinez from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Miles controls Martinez momentarily but Martinez frees himself. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Miles pulls Martinez in close to prevent any damage.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Martinez manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Miles on his heels. He'll look to pass Miles's guard now, I'm sure. Miles working a defensive guard here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Miles keeping full guard, as Martinez tries to pass. Martinez has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Miles to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Martinez is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Miles pulls down on the head and he's put Martinez to sleep! This one is all over!
