Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rodger Cambell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aleksandr Karelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cambell comes into the arena with Godsmack - Crying Like A Bitch blaring out of the sound system. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rodger Cambell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksandr Karelin!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karelin shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Cambell's guard.
Cambell wants to stand up but Karelin is controlling him.
Karelin throws a big right hand that misses.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Karelin won't allow Cambell to get back to his feet.

Karelin keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Cambell's head.
Karelin is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Karelin throws an elbow that misses. Cambell uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Karelin's guard. Nice move by Cambell!

Karelin is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Cambell is aware though and is defending well.

Karelin is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Cambell sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Karelin's guard.

Karelin wants to improve his position but Cambell is controlling well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cambell is nestled in close to Karelin, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Cambell seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Cambell thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Karelin's head.
Karelin is trying to get back to full guard.

Cambell is trying to work for a kimura but Karelin is defending well.

Karelin seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

That's time! Cambell's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Karelin clinches up with Cambell and pushes him back against the cage.
Cambell tries a knee to the head but Karelin blocks it.

It looks like Rodger Cambell has been cut.
Karelin cracks Cambell with a nice body shot.
Karelin wants to take the fight to the mat but Cambell manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Karelin has Cambell pressed against the cage, preventing Cambell from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

and Cambell counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Karelin!

Karelin regains half guard.
Cambell is trying to control the action in half guard but Karelin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Aleksandr Karelin has got the better of the ground game so far.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cambell is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Karelin reverses the position - he's now on top in Cambell's guard.

Karelin lands a couple of elbows.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Cambell wants to stand and escape but Karelin is having none of it.

Cambell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Karelin on the ground.
Karelin makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Karelin looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Karelin looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Cambell with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Karelin is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Karelin stalling away here and it's allowed Cambell to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Karelin is working Cambell over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Karelin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Cambell closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Cambell defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Karelin.
Karelin looks to land a combination but Cambell avoids it well.
Karelin tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cambell swivels and escapes.

Karelin gets a clinch.
Cambell tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Karelin just stands there and leans against the cage.

Karelin changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Cambell fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Rodger Cambell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aleksandr Karelin.

Karelin takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Cambell lands a leg kick that knocks Karelin off balance momentarily.

Karelin wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Cambell, who protects the arm well.
Karelin lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Cambell down.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Cambell throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Karelin shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cambell pinned against the cage. Cambell gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Rodger Cambell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The fight stays on the outside here - Cambell looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Karelin clinches.
Karelin scores with a nice hook to the head.
Cambell has had enough of the clinch but Karelin keeps him there for the moment.
Karelin lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Karelin is pressed up against the cage. Cambell has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Karelin down to the mat. Karelin avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Horrible takedown by Karelin or perhaps it was just good defense by Cambell which made him look bad.

Cambell stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cambell wants it to stay on the feet.
Karelin shoots in but Cambell avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Cambell closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Cambell is looking to advance position but Karelin won't allow it.

Karelin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cambell is one step ahead there.
Karelin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Rodger Cambell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Aleksandr Karelin is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Cambell has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Cambell drops back, looking for a kneebar! Karelin looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Karelin looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Karelin!

I would just about give that final round to Aleksandr Karelin.
I've got Karelin winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
