Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Henriques! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kesigan Weidman! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Seu Braga and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Henriques misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Weidman forces Henriques back against the cage and clinches. Weidman landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Henriques wants a takedown.
Henriques is fighting off a takedown attempt but Weidman is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Henriques to the mat. Henriques regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Weidman stopping the sweep attempt from Henriques. Henriques working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Weidman doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Weidman manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Weidman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Henriques is keeping the position for now. Weidman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Henriques looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Henriques is breathing heavily. Weidman throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Weidman wants to control from the top but Henriques keeps moving. Weidman drops back, looking for a kneebar! Henriques looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Henriques looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Henriques!
That's one minute gone in the round. Weidman is trying to improve his position. Weidman is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Henriques off and has taken his back! Henriques is trying to break free.
