PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Perez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Eddie Perez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jon Jones!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perez shoots in but no luck this time.

Perez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Perez showed some decent athleticism there.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Jones keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Jones wants to get back to full guard.

Jones kicks off Perez and gets to his feet.
Jones falls off balance throwing a combination

and Perez counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Jones's guard now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Jones is working an open guard so Perez takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Perez lands a left and a right that send Jones crashing to the mat, dazed. Perez thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Jones is rocked!


It looks like Jon Jones has been cut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Perez wants to clinch.
Jones slaps away a takedown attempt from Perez, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Jones closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Perez to the mat! Perez manages to get full guard.
Jones loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Jones wants to control from the top but Perez keeps moving.

Perez looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Jones passes into half guard.
Perez is not content to let Jones control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Perez is looking to improve his position.
Jones wants to take a breather but Perez is having none of it.
Perez trying to control from the bottom.
Jones landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Jones trying to mount his opponent but Perez defends it.
Perez pushes Jones off but Jones dives into side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jones is staying tight to Perez's torso, preventing him from escaping.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Jones has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Jones looks to land a combination. Perez sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Perez keeps the fight on the outside.

Perez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Perez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Perez is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Jones's shoulder. That is not cool.
Jones wants to control but Perez postures up.
Perez creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Jones sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones wants to get back to his feet.
Perez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jones is trying to improve his position.
Jones manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Perez is staying active underneath Jones, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Jones not landing any meaningful shots this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eddie Perez dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jon Jones's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Jones throws a head kick that misses.
Jones stuffs the takedown.

Perez shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Jones wants to get back to full guard but Perez has passed into side control.

Perez thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Perez has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Jones tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Perez wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Perez decides to take the fight back to the feet.
A head kick from Jones lands but Perez takes it in his stride.
Perez works over Jones's head and body with a nice combination.
A low kick from Jones misses

and Perez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Jones's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Perez keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Jones's head.
Perez trying to stand up but can't free himself from Jones's guard.
Jones looking for a sweep. Not yet Jones, not yet.
Perez trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.
Perez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jones is looking for a triangle but Perez pushes his legs off easily.
Jones is breathing heavily.

Perez stands up and waves to Jones to follow him.
Perez pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Perez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away.
Jones feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Perezs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Perez tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Perez has closed the distance and engaged Jones in a clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Perez.
Perez is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Jones pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eddie Perez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Perez manages to pull guard.
Perez wants to stand up but Jones is controlling him.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Perez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Eddie Perez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jon Jones wasn't active enough on the ground.
Jones fails with a takedown attempt.

Jones drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Jones loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Perez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Perez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jones thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Jones is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Perez has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Jones is looking to defend but Perez has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Jones! Perez pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Jones taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Eddie Perez!
