PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Hawking (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mayuri Tatsuki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hawking's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, One Winged Angel by The Black Mages. Tatsuki has chosen Norther - Released as his entrance music. Stephen Hawking has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stephen Hawking!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 30 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Mayuri Tatsuki!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tatsuki scores with a jab to the jaw.

Hawking tries to sprawl but Tatsuki drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Hawking wants to get back to full guard.

Tatsuki is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hawking doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Tatsuki.
Tatsuki is taking a breather. Hawking says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Tatsuki not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Tatsuki is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hawking is just riding it out for now. Tatsuki eventually gives up the hold.
Tatsuki throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Hawking to regain full guard.

Tatsuki postures up in Hawking's guard and throws a big left but Hawking blocks it.

Tatsuki is looking to work some ground and pound but Hawking has wrist control.
Hawking lands some strikes from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tatsuki trying to control but Hawking is working from the bottom.
Tatsuki works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Still in half guard, Tatsuki seems content to control.
Tatsuki has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Hawking gets back to full guard.
Tatsuki makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tatsuki is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Tatsuki tries to lock up and control but Hawking gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Tatsuki can't escape the position.
Tatsuki controls the position.
Hawking scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Tatsuki?
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Tatsuki really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Tatsuki sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mayuri Tatsuki dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Tatsuki throws out a loose jab but Hawking uses good head movement to avoid it.
Tatsuki tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hawking defends well and Tatsuki ends up having to push Hawking into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Tatsuki has had enough of the clinch but Hawking keeps him there for the moment.
A frustrated look appears on Tatsuki's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Tatsuki wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Hawking struggles to land a body shot inside as Tatsuki controls his hands.
Hawking misses with some punches.

Tatsuki is trying to break the clinch but Hawking is controlling him.
Tatsuki is looking for a takedown.

Tatsuki connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Tatsuki lands a jab to Hawking's midsection.

Tatsuki decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Hawking on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Tatsuki is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hawking defends it well.

Tatsuki is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Hawking has managed to free his arm - good work.

Tatsuki is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hawking is just riding it out for now. Tatsuki eventually gives up the hold.
Hawking is staying active underneath Tatsuki, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Tatsuki has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Tatsuki connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Tatsuki cracks Hawking with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mayuri Tatsuki!
A less than humble Mayuri Tatsuki misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
