The bell rings for round one and we are underway! West closes this distance looking for a takedown but Franco circles away. West fails in his attempt to clinch. West takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Franco keeps West at a distance using the push kick. West dodges the punch combination from Franco.
Franco fails with the takedown. Franco has managed to clinch.
Franco tries to break free but West pushes him back against the cage. Franco drags the fight down to the ground.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Franco has his foot on West's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. West works his way back into a safe position though. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. West lands a couple of elbows. Franco wants to sweep here but West controlling him for the moment. Franco keeping full guard, as West tries to pass.
That's one minute gone in the round. West trying to stand up but can't free himself from Franco's guard. Franco is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Franco has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. West doesn't defend quickly enough and Franco has managed to lock this one up! Can West escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Franco on a fantastic submission victory.
