PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Konrad Kurze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barry Scott (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott has chosen Bang - By Barry Scott as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Barry Scott has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Konrad Kurze!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Barry Scott!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Ackerman and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A big right from Kurze misses.

Scott closes the distance and clinches.
Kurze fails to pull guard.

Kurze jumps guard and drags Scott to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Scott controlling from the top position.
Kurze has control of Scott's left arm, preventing Scott from doing any damage.
Scott is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Konrad Kurze has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Kurze scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Kurze looks to land a body kick but Scott moved away.
Kurze swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Kurze staying out of range there.
Scott drops his hands momentarily and Kurze takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Kurze swings for the body but Scott moves out of range.
Kurze ducks under a wild hook from Scott.
Kurze tests Scott's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Kurze throws out a loose jab but Scott uses good head movement to avoid it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kurze swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Scott misses with an uppercut
and Kurze counters with a stiff right hand.
Scott throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Kurze lands a right hook to the body.
Kurze misses the shot to the body.
Kurze takes a swing at Scott's ribcage but misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Scott enables Kurze to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Scott manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Kurze tries to free his leg and advance position but Scott is retaining full guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Scott is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Kurze distracts Scott with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kurze throws a big elbow that misses.
Kurze throwing strikes from guard but Scott blocks nicely.
Kurze has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kurze passes Scott's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Kurze drops an elbow to the side of Scott's head.
Scott has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kurze is working away from the top position though.
Scott is doing well to control the position and prevent Kurze from advancing to side control.

Kurze is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Scott defends it well.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Scott is controlling Kurze's trapped leg to prevent Kurze from advancing to side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Scott trying to hold on to Kurze's head to control him but Kurze postures up.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Barry Scott.
Scott slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Scott throws a sloppy head kick
and Kurze counters with a nice body shot.
Kurze lands a jab to Scott's midsection.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Scott misses with a leg kick
and Kurze counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Kurze lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Scott looks to land a left hand but Kurze moved out of range nicely.
Scott connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Kurze momentarily.
A head kick misses from Kurze.
Scott misses with a straight right.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Konrad Kurze will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Kurze is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Scott.
Scott moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Scott with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Scott pivots, looking for a leg kick but Kurze is out of range and Scott settles back down.
Scott scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Scott slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Kurze throws a lazy uppercut

so Scott counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kurze is pulling down on Scott's head to control his posture.
Scott looking to sit in guard and control but Kurze gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Kurze throwing strikes from guard but Scott blocks nicely.

Kurze with a flurry of punches that miss.
Scott not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Barry Scott hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Scott on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Scott stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Kurze.
A cross from Kurze lands.
Kurze takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Scott misses with a leg kick
and Kurze makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Kurze gets cracked there but stands up to it.

Kurze looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Scott!

Scott can't do much from the bottom here.

Kurze tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kurze has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Barry Scott has got the better of the ground game so far.
Scott is looking for a sweep.

Kurze lands some shots froms side control.
Kurze working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Scott is trying to improve his position.
Kurze moves into full mount!
Scott is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Kurze avoids the attempt from Scott to control.
Scott is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Kurze lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Kurze lands a nice shot to the head.
Kurze lands a heavy elbow.
Scott avoids a series of strikes thrown by Kurze.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kurze looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Kurze is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Scott tries to hold on but Kurze pushes him away.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kurze thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Kurze pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Kurze lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Konrad Kurze dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Kurze darts in looking for a takedown but Scott gets double underhooks and turns Kurze into the cage.
Kurze is trying to pull guard but Scott turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Barry Scott has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
A head punch blocked on the inside by Kurze.
Kurze fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Konrad Kurze. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Scott misses with some punches.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Scott.
A short right from Kurze.

Scott gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Scott trying to control the action but Kurze is working from the bottom.
Scott sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Kurze defending well though.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Scott working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Scott wants to take a breather but Kurze is having none of it.

Scott is taking a breather. Kurze says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Barry Scott wasn't active enough on the ground.
Scott on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Scott needs to keep his hands up - Kurze had a free shot at his head there.
A left lands for Kurze.
Konrad Kurze is winning the standup battle so far.
Scott is looking to chop away at Kurze's legs.
Scott takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Kurze tests Scott's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Kurze misses with a wild body shot.
Konrad Kurze is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Scott changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Kurze tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Scott was well out of range. Poor timing from Kurze.
Scott throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Kurze counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Scott's guard now.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kurze wants to control from the top but Scott keeps moving.
Kurze sitting in guard here, content to control.
Kurze's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Scott controls Kurze momentarily but Kurze frees himself.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Konrad Kurze.
Kurze throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Kurze. Scott shrugs it off though.
Scott throws a leg kick

so Kurze counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Kurze looking to sit in guard and control but Scott gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Scott slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Kurze takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Konrad Kurze.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kurze, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
