The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sloppy strikes from Caldwell. Those never looked like landing. Lucha is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Caldwell's half guard. Caldwell looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Lucha controlling the action here. Caldwell gets full guard. Lucha looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Lucha stopping the sweep attempt from Caldwell. Lucha is looking to work some ground and pound but Caldwell has wrist control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Caldwell is looking for a triangle but Lucha pushes his legs off easily.
Lucha is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lucha forces his way into half guard. Lucha not landing any meaningful shots this time. Caldwell tries to get to full guard but Lucha has control of the leg. Lucha is taking a breather. Caldwell says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Caldwell moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Lucha really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Caldwell. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Caldwell looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Lucha has picked Caldwell up and slammed him! Caldwell can't keep hold of the triangle and Lucha manages to pass to side control! Caldwell seems a little lost for a moment, as Lucha dominates the positioning. Caldwell wants to control but Lucha postures up. Caldwell is positioning himself to get back to half guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Lucha stands up. Lucha throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Caldwell tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Lucha is in Caldwell's guard. Lucha throws a big elbow that misses. Lucha is sitting in close to Caldwell's body. Caldwell has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Lucha is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Lucha is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Caldwell.
