Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aaron Patterson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rocko Balboa! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Anthony Taglia and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Patterson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Patterson tries to clinch up but Balboa circles away and keeps his distance. A left and a right from Balboa both land. Nice combination. Balboa throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Patterson tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Balboa manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Some wild striking there from Balboa.
Balboa fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Balboa throws a right hand that Patterson ducks under and follows up with a left that Patterson also avoids with ease. Balboa keeps the fight on the outside. Patterson scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Balboa is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Patterson is controlling him well. Patterson is working Balboa over with some ground and pound from side control. Balboa takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Patterson is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Balboa will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
That's one minute gone in the round. Patterson looks up at the clock and then as Balboa takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Patterson smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Patterson controlling the position. Patterson stands up. Balboa connects with a right hand. Patterson shakes it off. Balboa bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Balboa throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Patterson. Balboa tries to sprawl but Patterson drives through with a takedown into half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Balboa wants to get back to his feet. Patterson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Patterson decides to return to a standing position. Rocko Balboa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Balboa works the jab nicely. Balboa looks to land a combination but Patterson avoids it well. Patterson tries to clinch up. A jab from Balboa does it's job there. Patterson looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Patterson landing some decent shots from guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patterson sitting in guard here, content to control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Balboa is wriggling around but Patterson manages to pass to half guard.
Patterson is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Patterson stalling.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Patterson decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Balboa throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Patterson takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Excellent takedown into side control there by Patterson. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Patterson decides to stand back up. Patterson steps back and let's Balboa get back to his feet. Balboa looks winded! The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Balboa scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Balboa is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Patterson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Balboa! Balboa tries to escape but Patterson is in control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Aaron Patterson dominated that round. That's time! Patterson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Balboa gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Patterson to score an easy takedown into full guard. Patterson working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Balboa can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Patterson controls the pace. Balboa has a closed guard, preventing Patterson from standing up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Balboa is trying to control the position but Patterson postures up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Aaron Patterson. No joy there for Balboa, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Patterson looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Balboa connects with a good right hand that stumbles Patterson. Patterson circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Patterson is looking to clinch. Patterson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Balboa is fending him off so far but Patterson persists. Nope, Balboa circles away and we're back to standing. Patterson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Balboa circles away quickly and effectively. Balboa tries to work over Patterson's front leg with a kick but Patterson checks it. Patterson tries to clinch but Balboa is having none of it. Patterson throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Balboa throws a one two combo.
Patterson is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Balboa's half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Patterson tries to pass to full mount but Balboa defends it. Patterson is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Balboa! Patterson controlling the position easily from mount. Patterson stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Balboa scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A jab lands there for Balboa. Balboa throws a right hand that Patterson ducks under and follows up with a left that Patterson also avoids with ease. Balboa lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Balboa is breathing heavily. Patterson throws a sloppy head kick and Balboa moves out of range easily. Nice straight punches there by Balboa. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Balboa. Balboa goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. Balboa throws a right and a left that both miss. A momentary lapse in concentration from Balboa enables Patterson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Balboa manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Patterson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. This has been an exciting period of action! Patterson throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Balboa tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Patterson is in Balboa's guard. Balboa being controlled here, momentarily. Patterson stands and throws Balboa's legs to the side, diving into side control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Patterson has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Balboa! Patterson controlling his opponent. Patterson scoring with strikes but Balboa is staying in there. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Patterson lands a big shot there that rocks Balboa but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Aaron Patterson dominated that second round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!
Patterson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Balboa to the ground. Patterson is now in Balboa's guard. Patterson stays in close to Balboa's body and controls the position. Patterson slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Balboa on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Balboa is looking to get back to his feet here but Patterson is keeping cool and he's managed to take Balboa's back. Patterson has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
That's one minute gone in the round. Balboa is trapped and Patterson is scoring with shots to the head and body. Balboa holding both Patterson 's hands and preventing any damage. What can Balboa do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Patterson is landing with strikes. Balboa can't take much more of this. Balboa preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Patterson. Rocko Balboa has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Patterson lands with a hammerfist to the side of Balboa's head. Balboa holding both Patterson 's hands and preventing any damage. Balboa takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Patterson loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Balboa hold on?
Aaron Patterson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Patterson is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Balboa is defending well though. Patterson let's go of the attempt for now. Patterson slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Patterson cracks Balboa with a big shot to body and one to the head - really punishing Balboa from the back mount here, looking to soften him up.
Patterson looking for the choke but no joy. You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Patterson really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Balboa. Balboa preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Patterson. Balboa trying to get back to his feet but Patterson is in full control for now.
And that's the end of the fight! Aaron Patterson showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Patterson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
