The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Felipe Paraventi and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Van Dijk. Matx does a little dance to reset his feet.
Van Dijk shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Matx but Matx pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Nick Van Dijk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

It looks like Nick Van Dijk has been cut.

Grace Matx has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nick Van Dijk.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Van Dijk can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Matx controls the pace.

Van Dijk working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Matx doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Matx manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Matx is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Grace Matx just wasn't active enough.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Van Dijk.

Van Dijk is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Matx asserts his dominance and retains side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
