PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kalle Kula (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Saigon The Yard Father (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kula's entrance music is Bullet - Bite the Bullet. A fine choice. The Yard Father has chosen Saigon - Get Busy as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Kalle Kula!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Saigon The Yard Father!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Johanna Lukiainen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kula gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and The Yard Father counters with a shoot takedown. Kula fights it but they end up in guard.

The Yard Father has gone for a leg lock! Kula slips out almost immediately though and dives into The Yard Father's guard.
The Yard Father wants to sweep but no luck.

The Yard Father has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Kula is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for The Yard Father.

The Yard Father prevents Kula from moving into mount.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kula is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, The Yard Father has escaped the position, nice work there.

Kula is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. The Yard Father knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kula thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The Yard Father is looking to regain half guard here but Kula keeps moving and retains side control.

Kula is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. The Yard Father knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The Yard Father tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no The Yard Father has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Kula might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kula is trying to improve his position.

The Yard Father goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Kula rolls with the submission and now he's on top in The Yard Father's guard! Nice work there by Kula!

Kula drops back looking for a leg! The Yard Father is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and The Yard Father manages to kick Kula off! Kula jumps back into The Yard Father's guard.

The Yard Father looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kula is one step ahead there.
The Yard Father can't keep his opponent in guard - Kula advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
We've been hearing that Kula has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Kula is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The Yard Father is trying to get back to full guard.

Kula seems to be looking for submissions.

Kula is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. The Yard Father doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kula.

Kula is looking for submissions but instead, The Yard Father has regained full guard.

Kula drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but The Yard Father manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Kula has The Yard Father in his guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Saigon The Yard Father will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Kula darts in looking for a takedown but The Yard Father gets double underhooks and turns Kula into the cage.

The Yard Father wants the takedown. Kula is fighting it off but The Yard Father persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Kula's guard against the cage.

The Yard Father drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kula dives on top into guard.

Kula is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Our spies down at at Da Training Centa inform us that The Yard Father has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Kula wants to work for an arm triangle but The Yard Father is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Kula looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Kula pushes a forearm under The Yard Father's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, The Yard Father is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Kalle Kula!
Kalle Kula seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
