And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jake Shields!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Eliza Hachem and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shields keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
St Pierre tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Shields manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
St Pierre tries to close the distance and clinch but Shields swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A telegraphed right hand from St Pierre misses the target.
Shields lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Shields throws a right and a left that St Pierre avoids nicely.

Shields closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into St Pierre's guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Shields is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
St Pierre on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if St Pierre tries to get out of the position.

Shields drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shields jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Shields passes St Pierre's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Shields is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
St Pierre wants to control but Shields is keeping busy.

St Pierre is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
St Pierre is doing well to control the position and prevent Shields from advancing to side control.
St Pierre is looking for a sweep. Shields is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Shields is trying to work for a kimura but St Pierre is defending well.

Shields is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so St Pierre is just riding it out for now. Shields eventually gives up the hold.

St Pierre is looking to control Shields's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can St Pierre avoid being mounted?
Shields is trying to control the action in half guard but St Pierre is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

St Pierre is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at The Shield that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
St Pierre knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shields on the ground.
St Pierre tries to get to full guard but Shields has control of the leg.

St Pierre has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Shields is on him like a limpet, forcing St Pierre back against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Shields avoids the elbow strike from St Pierre, against the cage.

Shields gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, St Pierre regains guard.

St Pierre is trying to keep Shields in close.

Shields trying to control but St Pierre is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shields passes into half guard.
St Pierre is trying is best to control the position here.

Shields is looking for a kimura but St Pierre is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Shields to get the leverage.

Shields in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. St Pierre tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Shields!

A relieved looking Jake Shields thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
