Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 0 - 2, fighting out of Sydney, Kazushi Sakuraba! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
15 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, John McNamara! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McNamara will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
McNamara misses with an uppercut. McNamara throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. McNamara fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sakuraba manages to avoid it. McNamara has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Sakuraba takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Sakuraba scores with a sloppy right hand. McNamara should have avoided that one. McNamara misses with a double jab.
McNamara swings widly with a right hand
and Sakuraba counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Good standup being displayed there by McNamara as he connects with a hook. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. McNamara steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Sakuraba. McNamara scores with a hook. Sakuraba tries a head kick but it misses.
McNamara throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Sakuraba sees it coming and avoids it easily. Nice jab there from McNamara. McNamara connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Sakuraba momentarily.
Sakuraba throws a wild body kick that McNamara sees coming a mile off.
That's one minute gone in the round. McNamara misses the jab. Sakuraba tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but McNamara paws at him with a jab and circles away. McNamara misses with a body shot.
Sakuraba ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. McNamara connects with a nice cross there... Sakuraba is looking wobbly and McNamara recognises it - he's rushed in and lands two more brutal shots that send Sakuraba to the canvas, out cold! A brutal finish to the fight - McNamara jumps onto the cage to celebrate with the crowd!
