PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Blake Nash (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Helio James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James has chosen Limp Bizkit Eat You Alive as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Helio James was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Blake Nash!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 28 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Helio James!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nash bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Nash looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
The fighters circle momentarily. James darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
James fails with an attempt to clinch.
James has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
That kick from James tenderised Nash's leg. Nash is trying to keep his angry face on.
Nash throws a wild body kick that James sees coming a mile off.
Nash tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but James was well out of range. Poor timing from Nash.
Nash is looking to land body kicks.
James misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Nash.
Nash throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
James lands a lovely overhand right.
Good leg kick by Nash there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Nash throws a big shot that misses.
Nash gets cracked with a nice right hand there by James.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Nash finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Nash lands with a thumping leg kick.
Nash feints and then cracks James's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow James down.

Nash takes one to the chin there.
Nash slips a jab and a cross from James.
Blake Nash is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
James misses with the body kick
and Nash counters with an inside leg kick.
Nash moves into range and connects with a jab.


It looks like Helio James has been cut.
A good leg kick by Nash.
James takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
The fight stays on the outside here - Nash looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

This has been an exciting period of action!
James throws the left hand but Nash avoids the punch easily.
Nash throws a wild body kick that James sees coming a mile off.
James throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Nash tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.

James avoids the head kick by Nash.

Nash has closed the distance and engaged James in a clinch.
Nash blocks a body shot from James.
James is trying to pull guard but Nash turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
James tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Nash lands a damaging elbow.
Nash's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
James scores with a shot to the side of Nash's head.
James controlling the action here for a moment.

James gets control of Nash's arms and successfully pulls guard. James will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

James is looking to sweep but instead, Nash has passed into half guard.

James tries to roll over but Nash keeps him under control.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The ref stands the fighters back up. Blake Nash wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Nash slaps away a takedown attempt from James, before circling back to the center of the mat.
James misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Nash just misses with a punch to the body.
James connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
James avoids a kick to the body.
James fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Nash manages to avoid it.
Nash throws a low kick but James avoids it.
Nash tries to land a leg kick but James saw it coming and moves away.
James throws a nice looking combination but Nash bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
James swings for the body but Nash moves out of range.
James fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
James blocks the body kick.
James scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Nash throws a head kick that half lands.

and James counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Nash!
Nash is looking for a sweep.
James is looking to take a break and control but Nash is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

James is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Nash knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

James wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nash keeps working.

Nash takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

James is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Nash has escaped the position, nice work there.
Sloppy strikes there by James.
James laying and praying for a moment but Nash takes advantage and regains half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nash is refusing to be controlled, as James sits in half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Helio James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
James misses with a takedown attempt - Nash sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Nash.
James throws the left hand but Nash avoids the punch easily.

so James counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
James takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
James wants to control from the top but Nash keeps moving.
James pushes down on Nash's leg and manages to get into half guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Nash fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but James is out of range.
James lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
James jabs Nash right on the nose. Nash blinks but takes it well.
Nash throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

James wants to control but Nash is keeping him busy.

And that's the end of the fight!
Helio James comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think James has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
