Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Akiyama Shinichi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raje Malapitan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akiyama Shinichi has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Akiyama Shinichi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Raje Malapitan! The judges for this bout are , Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shinichi moves to clinch but Malapitan breaks away and Malapitan counters with a straight right hand. Shinichi keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Malapitan ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Shinichi moves away. Malapitan connects with a good right hand that stumbles Shinichi. Shinichi circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Shinichi fails with a takedown attempt. Malapitan scores with a jab. Shinichi throws a low kick but it's checked well by Malapitan. Malapitan digs a good body shot into Shinichi's ribs. Shinichi dives in and grabs Malapitan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Malapitan pushes down on Shinichi's head and hops out. Shinichi shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Shinichi was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. A control attempt from Malapitan but he's now mounted! Shinichi looking for a guillotine from mount but Malapitan is having none of it. Shinichi controlling the pace for now. Shinichi trying to control but he's not successful this time.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shinichi sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Shinichi looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Shinichi tries to control but Malapitan wriggling away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shinichi jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Malapitan manages to avoid the submission attempt.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shinichi tries to move into full mount but can't pass Malapitan's legs. Malapitan is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Shinichi staying calm. Shinichi wants to control but Malapitan is keeping him busy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shinichi advances nicely into full mount. Shinichi working for a submission but Malapitan is keeping him at bay. Shinichi looking to control but Malapitan is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Malapitan is working to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Akiyama Shinichi dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Malapitan is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Shinichi. Malapitan bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Shinichi's head backwards. Malapitan throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Shinichi slips under a jab from Malapitan. Shinichi on the wrong end of a nice hook. Shinichi shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Malapitan defends it nicely. Malapitan lands a slapping body shot.
Nice takedown defense from Malapitan. No joy for Shinichi on that attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shinichi fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Akiyama Shinichi. That's going to take a lot out of him. Shinichi misses with a takedown attempt and Malapitan counters with a lovely straight right hand! Shinichi throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Nice defenses there by Shinichi. Malapitan loads up on a big right hand but Shinichi slips the punch. Malapitan misses with an uppercut. Shinichi saw that one coming. Akiyama Shinichi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Malapitan throws a jab but it's blocked by Shinichi. Shinichi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Malapitan is fending him off so far but Shinichi persists. Nope, Malapitan circles away and we're back to standing. Malapitan throws a big shot that misses. Shinichi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Shinichi tries to advance to mount but can't.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Malapitan is looking to reverse the position. Shinichi is looking to take a break and control but Malapitan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Shinichi advances to mount. Malapitan slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Shinichi stalling. Akiyama Shinichi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Malapitan is staying active underneath Shinichi, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shinichi passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Malapitan! Shinichi looking to control but Malapitan is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Shinichi content just to control the position here. Shinichi tries to control but Malapitan wriggling away.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shinichi is trying to control here but Malapitan has managed to regain half guard.
Malapitan won't allow Shinichi to pass to mount. We've been hearing good reports from Shinichi's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shinichi is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Malapitan sees it coming and defends easily. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Shinichi seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Malapitan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Shinichi controlling the action here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Malapitan throws a hook but Shinichi blocks it. Malapitan is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Malapitan circles away from the clinch attempt.
Malapitan ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Shinichi takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Shinichi shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Malapitan sprawls well. Malapitan wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Shinichi gets slowly back to his feet. Shinichi looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Malapitan is fending him off so far but Shinichi persists. Nope, Malapitan circles away and we're back to standing. Shinichi darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shinichi controlling the action here. Shinichi prevents Malapitan from improving his position. Malapitan wants to control but Shinichi is keeping busy and won't allow it. Shinichi wants to pass the guard but Malapitan is defending well. Malapitan manages to get to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shinichi passes Malapitan's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Malapitan trying to hold on to Shinichi's head to control him but Shinichi postures up.
Malapitan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Shinichi is pressing down on Malapitan's thigh, looking to free his foot. Malapitan is holding on for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Shinichi is looking for a kimura but Malapitan is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Shinichi to get the leverage. Malapitan is looking to improve his position.
Shinichi passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Malapitan! Malapitan keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shinichi controlling from mount. Shinichi is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Malapitan is forced to tap! Great finish!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:33 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Akiyama Shinichi! Akiyama Shinichi decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
