Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eduard Iriskhanov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Antonis Skayias! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Iriskhanov stuffs the takedown. Skayias throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Skayias has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Iriskhanov is landing a low percentage of strikes. Skayias throws a body punch but Iriskhanov moves out of range. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Skayias. Skayias throws a lazy uppercut
and Iriskhanov counters with a three punch combo that has Skayias backing up. Skayias nods at Iriskhanov to acknowledge the strikes. Skayias lands with a straight right. Iriskhanov didn't see that one coming. Antonis Skayias seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Iriskhanov throws a nice looking combination but Skayias bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Skayias fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Iriskhanov looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Skayias swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Iriskhanov. A looping hook to the body misses from Skayias. Iriskhanov does a little dance to reset his feet. Skayias throws an overhand right that lands on Iriskhanov's shoulder, as Iriskhanov tries to avoid the shot. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Iriskhanov tries to sprawl but Skayias drives through with a takedown into half guard. Iriskhanov on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Iriskhanov tries to get out of the position. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Skayias seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
We've been hearing good reports from Iriskhanov's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Iriskhanov trying to hold on to Skayias's head to control him but Skayias postures up.
Eduard Iriskhanov has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Skayias scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Skayias scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Skayias throws a series of punches but Iriskhanov avoids them all with ease. Skayias connects with a looping right hand.
Iriskhanov is rocked! We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Today's fight clock is brought to you by... OOOH that's a huge shot by Skayias! Iriskhanov is in big trouble here - the ref steps in to save him and this one is all over!
