PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tom Stroud (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andrzej Wrzeszczycki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stroud kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Vallenfyre - Iconoclast. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Andrzej Wrzeszczycki!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, Phil Schofield and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stroud is looking to clinch.
Wrzeszczycki tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stroud paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Stroud closes the distance and pushes Wrzeszczycki back into the cage.

Wrzeszczycki breaks the clinch.
Stroud thows a body shot but no joy.
Wrzeszczycki tries a head kick but it misses.

Stroud closes the distance and clinches.
Stroud stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Wrzeszczycki throws an elbow but it misses.
Stroud lands with a right to the head.

Stroud is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Lawson MMA (UK) that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Andrzej Wrzeszczycki wasn't active enough on the ground.
Wrzeszczycki tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Stroud manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Stroud misses with a two punch combination.

Stroud moves into range and connects with a jab.

Wrzeszczycki shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Stroud's guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Stroud wants to clinch
and Wrzeszczycki counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Stroud looks to throw the jab but Wrzeszczycki is out of range.
A chopping leg kick lands by Wrzeszczycki.

Wrzeszczycki decides to stand back up. Wrzeszczycki steps back and let's Stroud get back to his feet.

Stroud digs a good body shot into Wrzeszczycki's ribs.
Stroud throws the left hand but Wrzeszczycki avoids the punch easily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Stroud misses with a left hand
and Wrzeszczycki counters with a good low kick that Stroud was not able to check.
Stroud fails to land with a series of punches.
Wrzeszczycki shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Stroud as he jumps to the side.
Stroud rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Wrzeszczycki moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Stroud wants to clinch.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Wrzeszczycki closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Stroud did well to prevent Wrzeszczycki getting side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Andrzej Wrzeszczycki will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Stroud connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Wrzeszczycki momentarily.
Some bone on bone action there as Wrzeszczycki checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Stroud tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Wrzeszczycki paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Stroud paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Wrzeszczycki bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Stroud tries to clinch but Wrzeszczycki is having none of it.
Stroud looks to land a left hand but Wrzeszczycki moved out of range nicely.

Stroud is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Wrzeszczycki defends it well.

Stroud winds up and cracks Wrzeszczycki with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Wrzeszczycki holds on and takes a little breather.

Stroud throws a lazy right hand but Wrzeszczycki sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Stroud scores with a one two! Wrzeszczycki had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Stroud grits his teeth and throws a big right-left combo! Wrzeszczycki takes both shots clean on the chin and is out cold! Stroud cracks him once more on his way down, as the crowd goes wild! They enjoyed that one!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Tom Stroud!
An out of breath Tom Stroud thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
